Emergencies don't just happen Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Late on a Friday afternoon, a homeowner and small business owner contacted us after sewage backed up onto her basement floor. After investigating the problem, we found the main sewer line was completely blocked with tree roots and needed to be replaced.

Permits were picked up, the lovely excavating crew at Lands Inc was called, and by 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning we were on site and ready to get to work.

This job came with an extra challenge. The damaged sewer line ran directly beneath the roadway, and our goal was to repair it without having to dig up the street. Thanks to Manley's patience and expertise, the assistance of a City Water and Sewer technician, and a lot of hard work from everyone involved, we were able to successfully replace the line without the City needing to excavate the roadway.

We're grateful to our customer for trusting us with the job, keeping us fueled with some delicious homemade treats throughout the day, and for her patience while we got everything back in working order.

After a busy stretch, it was nice to slow down for an evening of fresh salt air, the sound of the waves, a beach campfire to help keep the mosquitoes at bay, and a little bass fishing with the kids.

We've been a little quiet on social media lately, but that's only because we've been keeping busy this spring!

We recently had the pleasure of working alongside SAV Lands Inc to help prepare one of our customers' property for several new cottages. Our team installed the new water and septic lines to help lay the groundwork for an exciting project.

We were thrilled to be a part of this installation at Victoria Park!

As parents who have spent countless hours at the park on hot summer days, we know firsthand how valuable access to fresh drinking water can be. That made this project especially meaningful for us, as we were able to help install something that will benefit families, athletes, and park visitors for years to come.

We have received a high volume of frozen pipe calls this weekend and are doing our very best to get to as many as possible, we will be working into the evening.

Mother Nature is sending us some cold weather this coming weekend, so we wanted to share a few helpful tips to keep your home safe and warm:
• If you have hot water baseboard radiators but mainly use a heat pump, consider turning up your baseboards. When heat pumps run, the water in baseboard systems can sit stagnant, increasing the risk of freezing and bursting.
• Check your heat tape to make sure it’s plugged in. With all the holiday decorating and takedown, plugs can accidentally get disconnected.
• Block any drafts you notice, cold air hitting pipes can cause them to freeze quickly.
• Open cupboard doors under sinks if your plumbing is on an outside wall. This allows warm air to circulate around the pipes.
• Consider leaving a tap on a slow, steady drip. Moving water is much less likely to freeze.
And lastly, please be patient this weekend. Your local plumbers will likely be very cold and very busy!
