Think your pool might have a leak?

Before you panic, try the bucket test.

Fill a bucket with water and place it on one of your pool steps. Match the water level inside the bucket to the water level in the pool, then leave it for 24 hours.

When you come back, compare the two levels:

• If the water dropped the same amount in both the bucket and the pool, it's likely normal evaporation.
• If the pool water dropped more than the bucket water, there may be a leak that needs further investigation.

It's a simple test that can help you determine whether water loss is normal or something worth looking into.

And if you're still concerned, we're always here to help identify the source of the problem and get your pool back to performing the way it should.

One of the most common questions pool owners ask is: "Am I losing water because of evaporation or because of a leak?"

The good news is that some water loss is completely normal.

Typically, a pool can lose about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch of water per day through evaporation. Weather conditions, water temperature, wind, and pool usage can all affect this.

Even losing about a quarter inch in a day isn't necessarily a concern if you've had swimmers in the pool, warm temperatures, or the heater running.

What should get your attention is consistent water loss day after day.

If you're losing around a quarter inch every single day, it's worth checking your equipment for leaks and inspecting the pool more closely.

The key is looking for patterns—not isolated events.

Knowing what's normal can help you catch potential issues early and avoid unnecessary worry.

Your skimmer does more than just collect leaves and debris.

If your pool is surrounded by trees—especially pine trees—it's important to check and clean the skimmer basket regularly to maintain good water flow and circulation.

But here's something many pool owners overlook: the anti-electrolysis anode inside the skimmer.

This small metal component is designed to help protect the metal parts throughout your pool system, including screws, the pump, heater, and salt cell. Over time, it wears down as it does its job.

A good rule of thumb is to replace it once it's mostly white or at least once per year.

And when vacuuming your pool, don't forget to fully fill the vacuum hose with water before connecting it. This helps maintain proper suction and prevents air from entering the system.

Small maintenance habits can make a big difference in the long-term health of your pool.

Pool Tip: Keep an Eye on Your Water Level

One of the simplest ways to keep your pool running properly is maintaining the correct water level.

A good rule of thumb is to keep the water about an inch below the top of the skimmer. This allows debris to flow into the skimmer efficiently while maintaining proper circulation throughout the system.

If the water level drops to around halfway down the skimmer, it's time to add water back into the pool.

It may seem like a small detail, but proper water levels help your pump, skimmer, and filtration system perform the way they're designed to.

Simple maintenance. Better performance.

Solar Blanket Tips ☀️

A lot of people think a solar blanket's main job is to heat the pool during the day.

While it can help a little, that's not really its biggest benefit.

The real purpose of a solar blanket is to retain heat overnight. When temperatures drop, it helps reduce heat loss and can make a significant difference in maintaining your pool temperature.

As for algae, leaving the blanket on for a day isn't usually a concern. But when it stays on continuously for several days—or even a week—without being removed, it can create conditions where algae is more likely to develop underneath.

The best approach? Use it regularly, especially at night, but don't forget to uncover the pool and let it breathe throughout the week.

A simple habit that helps keep your water warmer and healthier.

A clean, clear pool doesn't happen by accident—it comes from consistent maintenance and proper water care.

One of the most common questions pool owners ask is how often their pool should be serviced. In most cases, weekly maintenance helps keep water chemistry balanced, equipment operating efficiently, and debris from becoming a bigger issue.

A professional maintenance visit typically includes vacuuming, water testing, chemical adjustments, filter maintenance, and a full equipment inspection. Regular service can help identify small issues before they turn into costly repairs.

Water balance is equally important. Properly balanced water should be clear, comfortable to swim in, and free of strong odors. Routine testing helps ensure pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels remain within recommended ranges throughout the season.

The goal is simple: spend more time enjoying your pool and less time worrying about it.
