What keeps me growing flowers isn’t always about sharing the beauty with people.

It isn’t always about the business, or the hard work, or seeing an idea come to life, or experimenting with something new.

Sometimes it’s just this.

Standing in the field and watching a hummingbird hawk moth move from flower to flower.

And suddenly being reminded of all the things happening here that have nothing to do with me.

The bees. The butterflies. The moths. The birds. All these little creatures quietly going about their lives, finding food, doing their work, keeping this little ecosystem alive.

Things we so often take for granted.

And today, for whatever reason, I needed to see this one.

Maybe that’s part of why I keep doing this.

Because every once in a while, the field gives something back.

A tiny moment that makes me stop what I’m doing and just watch.

A reminder that beauty isn’t always something we create.

Sometimes it’s something we’re lucky enough to notice.

And sometimes it shows up right when we need it.

Medieval Faire in Fergus was a highlight of my summer so far… And my most favorite moment was when this little girl picked out her dried flower crown and wanted to wear it right then and there! What an amazing event with so many people (vendors, visitors, young and old) who for a time traded the modern world for a journey back to medieval times.

It was surreal first thing this morning to see and hear the sounds of the honey bees doing their thing with the fresh lavender blooms. Sometimes I am in so much awe with what I get to see and experience in the gardens.
Even though honey bees are not aggressive, we decided any weeding around the lavender was not a priority right now. The bees were the priority. At the end of our garden work, we just wanted to sit in the pool … smell the lavender and listen to the soft hum of the bees.

I grow color… I like variety of colors… every spectrum … blues are my favorite… but not many to be had in the natural flower world… pastels, whites, pinks, yellows, purples, reds … you name it… it’s all beautiful to me!

Working in the flower field today and I noticed one little calf in the tall grass in the field next to me continuously falling down. Curious, I went to see what was up… and it was a new one that was just born. What a privilege… to watch it all unfold. I love how all the other community of cows surrounded her! Celebrating and protecting her!
The sacredness and spirit of new life always touches the human soul!

Perennials are what drive the bouquets this time of year from farm to table!
Grateful for the team .chartrand and for their hard work, creativity, and passion for flowers. Thankful for that supports a local flower grower and adding a touch to their guests experience.
I am especially grateful to and for the land space to grow flowers. This would not be possible without the land!

Garden Makeover Transformation 🌿

These homeowners purchased a property that had once been lovingly transformed into a beautiful, serene garden filled with shrubs and perennials. Over time, however, an aggressive plant called cup plant took over, spreading throughout the boulevard and overwhelming much of the original garden.

The homeowners wanted something simpler and easier to maintain, so together we created a plan. We removed the overgrown perennials, cut back the cup plant, and prepared the boulevard to be returned to grass. During the cleanup, we even uncovered a charming hidden pathway that had been lost beneath the weeds!

After removing dead shrubs, pruning existing plants, and restoring some order, the garden’s potential began to shine through again. Most importantly, the homeowners now have a yard they can feel proud of and a manageable foundation to build on for the future.

✨ Sometimes a garden makeover isn’t about creating something new—it’s about uncovering what’s already there and giving homeowners hope for the seasons ahead.

First bouquet of the season featuring the glowing Globe Flower, Trollius ‘Lemon Queen’ ✨💛

One of the earliest and most profuse bloomers in the perennial garden, these sunshine-coloured blooms arrive just as the season begins to awaken. Often symbolizing joy, renewal, and resilience, globe flowers feel like tiny golden lanterns lighting the way into summer.

The lupins are budding and getting ready to put on their annual show, while the perennial Blue Star (Amsonia) is quietly stealing hearts in the background with its soft star-shaped blooms and airy texture. Blue Star is often associated with calmness, hope, and guidance — a gentle reminder to trust the season you’re in. Beyond its spring flowers, it’s also loved for its feathery foliage and stunning golden fall colour.

These perennials thrive in sunny spots, rewarding the garden with beauty year after year — each one arriving in its own perfect timing.

The flower field is waking up. 🌼✨

Motherhood changes shape so many times throughout our lives.

Some seasons are loud and busy and overflowing with little hands, little voices, and endless needs. And some seasons become quieter… reflective… nostalgic.

Today at the flower farm, I didn’t feel called to do flower work or heavy prep for the season ahead. Instead, I found myself tending to small maintenance jobs that often get overlooked. And somehow, it felt fitting for Mother’s Day.

One thing that caught my attention was the hens and chicks,Sempervivum, a hardy low maintenance succulent.

The mother plant grows tiny babies all around her. Over time, the center fades, but not before creating new life to carry on. Hardy, resilient, needing very little, reaching for the sun — and remarkably, one of the only succulents that survives our Canadian winters.

It made me think about mothers.

How we give everything we can to help our children grow strong enough to spread their own wings. And while there’s a bittersweetness to watching that chapter change, there’s also beauty in what comes next.

For me, this season is feeling the empty nester…and yet loving being a Gamma. A whole new kind of joy. One where the roots are deep, the pressure is lighter, and the love only continues to grow.

To every mother, grandmother, stepmom, bonus mom, grieving mother, waiting mother, pet mom, and nurturer in whatever season you’re in — Happy Mother’s Day. 🤍
