The next step on our home renovation journey? The nearly 200-year-old barn in the backyard! 🏚️✨

When we first opened those doors, we were overwhelmed with what was left. Packed with old car parts, storage, and a colony of ants on the roof, we had our work cut out for us. After lifting, levelling, and re-roofing with rough-cut lumber from a local mill, the barn is finally coming back to life.

Once the house was finally empty, we could truly see what we had: a place full of history, character, and potential. We decided not to start from scratch, but to honour the home’s original layout, opening up key spaces and making subtle changes for modern living.

The new flow feels natural, preserving what made the house special while giving us better use of the existing space. It’s still the same cozy home it’s always been, but now it's reimagined for it's next big chapter!

In 2022, we took a chance on a dream and found ourselves buying a 160 year old home sight unseen.

The house came with four generations of belongings, left behind for us to sort through. A time capsule of stories, memories, and the things that accumulate over 100 years of life.

Over five weeks, we cleared room after room. It was an exhausting, rewarding, and deeply grounding experience.

And it’s only the beginning.

Walking through the door for the first time, we could see just how much care this 160 year old home would need. The decades had taken their toll, but the character was still shining through.

The attic is full of possibility, the setting by the river is something special, and we can’t wait to bring out the best in every corner.

In 2022, we started searching for a place to call home on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. After months of searching (through bungalows, farmhouses, and even a home with a spring running through the basement) we finally found the one!

A 160 year old house with a barn, sitting on the river that flows into Mahone Bay. The place had been in the same family for generations and had weathered both time and neglect, but something about it felt right.

We took a leap and made an offer without ever seeing it in person. Three days later, we got the news: the house was ours.

Follow along as we finally see the home in person and begin to take stock of the work ahead.

We traded city skylines for salty air, settling on the South Shore of Nova Scotia to chase our dream and save a 160 year old home in the process.

This is just the beginning. Follow along as we uncover the past, tackle the unexpected, and bring new life into a place that has a lot of stories to tell.
