✨ An Acadian Christmas Eve Tradition ✨
In our family, Christmas Eve has always meant coming together to share rabbit pâté (pote) pie 🥧🐇 — a tradition passed down through generations of Acadians here on the Eastern Shore.
Historically, families prepared simple, hearty foods for Christmas Eve using what was available to them. Rabbit, a winter game that could be hunted locally, became part of this special meal — one that brought families together, warmed the home, and marked the beginning of the Christmas season ❤️
Today, our family continues this tradition as a way to honour our roots and to gather with intention. Making & sharing rabbit pâté pie reminds us where we come from and gives us a reason to slow down, connect, and keep our Acadian traditions alive ✨
More than food, this tradition is about belonging, memory, and family. And it’s something we’re proud to carry forward
