In true "be present fashion" we forgot to take photos last night, but We want to give a huge shout out to our secretary Nancy Zwaagstra for putting on a fabulous harvesting and canning workshop at the Musquodoboit Harbour Public Library. Well done Nancy!

We had a lively discussion about how canning and preserving really change the "waste" game in home gardening and Nancy left some of her favourite canning recipes as leave behinds for the lucky folks who took part. We did have a request for a tomato jam recipe. This one is a total keeper!

There will never be "too many tomatoes" again ☺️🍅

Tomato jam is like the best ketchup you've ever tasted. It's sweet, savory, and just a little bit spicy. Try it with crackers & goat cheese!

We've thanked them once but it's time to thank them twice! The volunteers from the Eastern Shore Garden Club have been absolutely incredible. Thanks for tackling the carrots guys!!

Things start to take off in the garden come August and staying on top of the w**ds has been "a thing". To the rescue came some incredible volunteers from our local Eastern Shore Garden Club!

These very capable women put fear into the hearts of every w**d in the place lol! In all seriousness? We needed the support and they really came through ❤️ Thank you!!!

We also want to send out our thanks to Colin Cameron and his sister Carol. Carol is visiting from Ottawa and spent an hour or more of her vacation w**ding as well! And there is nothing Colin isn't prepared to give when asked.

We've helped fill the Community Fridge three times this last week. It truly takes a village 🥕🫛🥒💪🏼

40-50 days. That is how quickly you could be picking freshly planted beans. Contender is a very fast maturing variety and where the soil is warm right now, germination is quick and far better than in the early and often cooler spring temperatures. Frost tends to arrive later on the coast so take advantage of that perk and get a fresh crop into the ground asap! If we do have a frost looming, cover with frost cloth overnight and uncover in the sunshine the next day 😊🫘 Or, stick some in pots and pull them inside overnight!

This has been a great week or so for the garden. New potatoes, shelling peas, and cucumber have been dropped of at The Community Fridge and heading that way as we speak! Local, fresh, spray free 🥔🫛🥒

The shelling peas are finally starting to hit their stride 🫛🫛🫛
We were happy to drop off a few bags to the community Fridge yesterday and anticipate many more to come!
