Mold can be sneaky. 👀

Our Mold Masters team recently attended a home inspection in Summerland, where one of the homeowners had been experiencing symptoms she was concerned could be related to mold exposure.

During our inspection, our team uncovered significant microbial growth around the bedroom window — an area that can easily be overlooked but may impact the indoor environment.

We jumped into action right away by setting up proper containment, running a HEPA air scrubber, and carefully remediating the affected window using our commercial/industrial-grade disinfectant, mold stain remover, HEPA cleaning, and plenty of elbow grease.

The before and after speaks for itself!

If something doesn’t look, smell, or feel right in your home, it’s worth investigating. Mold isn’t always hiding in the obvious places.

THIS is what a tough mold remediation looks like!

This large attic had dense mold growth and less than 2 feet of clearance in some areas — meaning our team spent a good portion of this job working flat on our backs to reach and properly remediate the affected sheathing and trusses.

Definitely not an easy one… but look at that before & after!

Tight spaces, difficult access and challenging conditions don’t stop our crew from getting the job done. There’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing a heavily affected attic transformed like this.

Dirty work? Absolutely.
Challenging? You bet.
But we love what we do. 💚

Our Mold Masters team recently completed this attic remediation where significant visible microbial growth was present across the roof sheathing.

The goal of mold remediation isn’t simply to cover up staining — it’s to properly clean, treat and remediate the affected building materials while helping address the conditions that allowed the growth to develop in the first place.

The before and after speaks for itself! 🙌

Attics are one of the most common places we find mold because problems with ventilation, trapped humidity, bathroom/kitchen exhausts or moisture intrusion can go unnoticed for years.

Seeing dark staining in your attic? Don’t ignore it. Early investigation can help prevent a smaller issue from becoming a much larger remediation project.

Another Attic Mold Remediation Completed in the Shuswap! 🦠

Our Mold Masters team was out in the Shuswap completing an attic mold treatment, addressing visible microbial growth on the attic sheathing and surrounding affected areas.

One of the biggest contributors we see with attic mold is poor or inadequate ventilation. When warm, moisture-filled air becomes trapped in an attic, it can create the perfect conditions for condensation and mold growth.

Finding mold is only part of the problem — determining WHY it developed is just as important.

If mold is discovered in your attic, we recommend:

1️⃣ Remediate the mold first. Mold Masters can safely treat the affected areas and help restore the attic to a clean condition.

2️⃣ Have the attic/roofing system inspected. Proper soffit ventilation, baffles, roof vents and exhaust venting should be checked to ensure the attic has adequate airflow and moisture can escape.

3️⃣ Correct the underlying ventilation or moisture issue. Remediation removes the existing mold — correcting the cause helps prevent it from coming back.

💨 Remediate it. Correct the airflow. Help prevent it from returning.

Another Attic Remediation Completed! 🦠

The Mold Masters team wrapped up a BIG attic remediation today — treating over 1,500 sq. ft. of microbial growth!

Attic mold can spread across roof sheathing and trusses before homeowners even realize there’s a problem. Moisture, poor ventilation, inadequate airflow and condensation can all contribute to microbial growth in attic spaces.

Our remediation process focuses on safely treating the affected areas and getting the attic back to a cleaner, healthier condition.

🦠 Why does mold affect some people more than others?

Have you ever wondered why one person can live in a home with mold and feel completely fine, while another experiences ongoing health symptoms?

The answer isn’t always simple.

Everyone responds to mold exposure differently. Factors such as genetics, allergies, asthma, immune function, age, the amount of mold present, and how long someone has been exposed can all influence how their body reacts.

Some people may experience:
✔️ Coughing or wheezing
✔️ Eye, nose, or throat irritation
✔️ Headaches
✔️ Fatigue
✔️ Allergy-like symptoms
✔️ Worsening asthma or other respiratory conditions

Others may notice very few or no symptoms at all.

At Mold Masters, we focus on what we can verify:
✅ Professional mold inspections
✅ Moisture and leak investigations
✅ Safe mold remediation
✅ Odour removal
✅ Biohazard cleanup

If you’ve noticed a musty smell, experienced water damage, or are concerned about possible mold in your home or business, don’t ignore it. Finding and correcting the moisture source is the first step toward a healthier indoor environment.

Could Hidden Mold Be Growing in Your Home?

Mold isn’t always visible. It can hide in attics, crawlspaces, bathrooms, basements, behind walls, and around windows.

Common signs include:
✔️ Musty odours
✔️ Dark staining or discolouration
✔️ Condensation or moisture
✔️ Increased allergy or asthma symptoms

Mould can begin growing within 24–48 hours of moisture exposure, so early detection is important.

What Causes MOLD in Attics in the Okanagan & Shuswap?

Many homeowners are surprised to learn that attic mould isn’t always caused by a roof leak. In fact, some of the most common causes are hidden issues that slowly allow moisture to build up over time.

Here are some of the biggest contributing factors we see during attic inspections:

Poor ventilation – Insufficient airflow traps warm, moist air, allowing condensation to form on the roof sheathing.

Bathroom fans venting into the attic – Exhaust fans should discharge outdoors, not into the attic space.

Blocked or missing soffit vents – Insulation or debris can prevent fresh air from entering the attic, reducing proper air circulation.

Warm indoor air escaping into the attic – Gaps around attic hatches, light fixtures, plumbing penetrations, or other ceiling openings allow humid air to enter the attic, especially during colder months.

Condensation – Temperature differences between the warm interior of the home and the colder attic can cause moisture to collect on wood surfaces.

Improper insulation or ventilation design – An attic needs the right balance of insulation and ventilation to perform properly.

Roof leaks – While less common than many people think, roof leaks can certainly contribute to mold growth if left unaddressed.

The good news? Most attic mold issues can be identified early and corrected before they become major problems.

At Mold Masters, we provide professional attic inspections throughout the Okanagan and Shuswap, using moisture meters, air quality testing, and thorough visual inspections to determine not only if mold is present, but why it’s there.
