Behind every backyard is someone who sees what it could become.

National Boss’s Day

What does it take to lead a pool and landscape company?

A good eye helps. So does experience, problem-solving, a willingness to get your hands dirty and the ability to look at an ordinary backyard and see what might be possible there.

For National Boss’s Day, we’re putting the spotlight on Tim Valerioti, owner of Hampton Pools & Landscape.

Tim is the person behind Hampton’s approach to creating custom pools, landscapes and outdoor living spaces throughout Kelowna and the Okanagan. From the first ideas through the countless decisions that turn a concept into a finished backyard, his work is about much more than building a pool.

It’s about seeing the whole space.

How the pool belongs with the landscape. Where people will gather. How the view should be framed. Where the light will fall. And how a backyard can become a place people genuinely want to spend their time.

Running a small business also means wearing rather a lot of hats: designer, problem-solver, decision-maker, coordinator and, occasionally, the person who simply figures out what needs to happen next.

Today, we’re celebrating the guy wearing all of them.

What helps girls grow into confident, capable young women?

Opportunity. Encouragement. Freedom to explore. Places where they can play, learn, take risks, build confidence and discover what they are capable of.

On International Day of the Girl, we celebrate girls everywhere and the importance of creating a world in which they have the opportunity to thrive.

At Hampton Pools & Landscape, our work is designing custom pools, landscapes and outdoor living spaces in Kelowna and throughout the Okanagan. And while a backyard cannot change the world on its own, the spaces where childhood happens matter.

They are where someone learns to swim. Where a first dive takes courage. Where games become competitions, summers become memories and independence grows almost unnoticed.

Can the spaces around us support our mental well-being?

They can certainly help create conditions for rest, connection and time outdoors.

For World Mental Health Day, we’re thinking about the value of having places where life can become a little quieter. A garden to sit in. Water to float in. A patio for coffee. A poolside chair with nowhere else you need to be.

Thoughtful outdoor living spaces can give us room to slow down, spend time with people we care about, move our bodies, connect with nature and step away from the noise of the day.

Why does LED lighting matter in a backyard?

Because the best outdoor spaces are designed to work long after the sun goes down.

For National LED Light Day, we’re celebrating one of the quieter elements of great backyard design: thoughtful outdoor lighting.
