Lots happening at Bear Creek! Our team has been making great progress around the park, with two of the three bridges now rebuilt and handrails installed.

The team also had a busy day working with Alpine Helicopters to longline lumber and equipment into the site. This kind of operation takes plenty of preparation, coordination and a strong focus on safety to get materials where they need to be.

Meanwhile, work is underway on the two large staircases, with the team laying out and excavating the footing holes.

A great deal of work goes into building and improving these spaces, and it's exciting to see things taking shape at Bear Creek!

Lots going on at Bear Creek!

Things have been busy on site as the team keeps the project moving. From hauling in materials and putting the lumber cart to work, to getting up in the air for a helicopter day, there’s always something happening at Bear Creek!

A Trail, A View, and a Surprise Visitor!

Work continues on the recreational hiking trails for the Okanagan Gondola, and there’s a lot happening behind the scenes before these trails are ready to explore.

The trail shown here is being prepared for its next stage, with surface organics and duff layers removed in preparation for the road base and crush topping. Once complete, the trail will be approximately 3 metres wide, finished with packed crush, and is scheduled for completion in December.

Building in this landscape also means keeping a close eye on the environment around us. A qualified environmental professional is on site conducting wildlife surveys and monitoring for species including small mammals, amphibians, and nesting birds.

And when you're working in the Okanagan summer heat, fire safety is always a priority. Crews are monitoring local fire danger conditions and keeping water packs and fire extinguishers close to all machine operations.

Of course, one of the best parts of working here is the view.

And every once in a while, you get a little reminder that we're sharing the landscape with some pretty interesting neighbours.

This little visitor? A young Northern rubber boa.

More trail to come, more views to enjoy, and hopefully a few more wildlife encounters along the way.

One step at a time.

The crew has been making steady progress up the hill, adding roughly 30 since our last update. We’re now at 55 installed, and getting closer to the finish line.

A new project is underway!

Our crew has started work on a new set of crib steps, creating a new route connecting the community to the parkland and green space above the hill.

8 crib steps are in, with 77 more to go.

This project is already putting the crew to the test, including one of our newest team members taking on their first Cabin project. Strong start. Ready for the challenge!

We’ll be following the progress as this new connection takes shape.

What starts as a blank site can involve a lot of moving pieces.

Our crew has been busy grading and shaping the site, building a deck, installing climbers and slides, adding agility logs, planting trees and shrubs, and putting irrigation in place to help everything grow.

We’ve also been working through the details that bring the whole space together, from drainage rock and rock mulch to fabric separation and aluminum edging to keep materials where they belong.

Piece by piece, the site is coming together, and there's still more to come!

Our team has been hard at work at Bear Creek, restoring fire damaged bridges that have left local trails closed to the public.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but progress is being made to help get these trails restored and reopened for the community.

Environmental protection has been installed around the bridge to catch debris as we prepare it for repainting and further repairs.

One step at a time, we’re working toward getting these trails back where they belong!

Our hearts are with our Okanagan community.

As wildfires continue to impact communities around Vernon, Summerland, and throughout the Okanagan, our thoughts are with everyone affected. We’re thinking of those who have been evacuated, those waiting for updates, and everyone facing uncertainty about their homes, businesses, and communities.

The Okanagan is home to so many of us, and seeing parts of our community impacted by wildfire is heartbreaking.

We are incredibly grateful for the firefighters, BC Wildfire Service, first responders, volunteers, and everyone working tirelessly to protect our communities and support those who have been displaced.

To everyone affected: you are not alone. The strength, compassion, and generosity of our Okanagan communities never fails to show when it matters most!

Please stay safe, look out for one another, and take care of yourselves and your neighbours. ❤️

Another milestone reached!

Our crew has completed work on the single-track hiking trail and has now moved on to constructing the double-track crusher chip trail, working their way down from the summit.

While the views may be incredible, so is the responsibility that comes with working in the current conditions. Our team continues to follow strict fire safety procedures, including active fire watch practices and daily work shutdown requirements, to help protect the landscapes we're fortunate to work in.

The alarm clocks have been going off a little earlier lately.

To stay ahead of the summer heat and work safely around nearby wildfire activity, our crew has been making the most of the cooler morning hours while continuing restoration work on site.

Over the past week, the team has been removing fire-damaged materials, including edging, concrete, lumber, and hardware, to prepare the site for the next phase of the project. More recently, work has shifted to preparing the first bridge for paint as restoration continues.

The work may not always be the most visible, but every step brings the project one step closer to completion.
