Ever worry about clipping a house or a fence while you’re spinning around?

The U in the Kubota U17-5 stands for Ultra Short swing. I tell people to imagine they are sitting in a glass jar. Because the counterweight stays within the width of the tracks, you can rotate 360 degrees and never hit the glass.

It takes the mental load off the operator so you can focus on the job and not on property damage.
Stop by Kensington Ag and I’ll show you how it works in person.

I’ve seen enough of these tight backyard jobs to know that sometimes a 5 ton machine is just too much for the workspace.

I just put together a full breakdown on the Kubota U17-5. A lot of people think a 1.7 ton machine is too small to do real work, but this thing is honestly the Swiss Army knife for contractors here on the Island.

I’m showing exactly how it fits through a 42 inch gate, the glass jar trick I use to avoid hitting a homeowner's siding, and why having no DPF or Regen means you aren't wasting time sitting around on the job site. I even lifted the entire 4,000lb machine off the ground with the boom just to prove a point.

Whether you’re a landscaper, plumber, or just have a project at the house, this is a game changer for tight spaces.

Stop thinking you need a massive truck and a special license to get into the excavation business.

The Kubota U17-5 is the ultimate "starter" machine for a reason. At roughly 3,900 lbs, you can safely haul this unit with a standard half-ton truck and a properly rated trailer.

As long as you have your Class 5 license, some basic knowledge on chaining down equipment, and the ability to back up a trailer, you are ready to hit the job site.

This is how you scale your landscaping or contracting business without the overhead of heavy-duty haulers.

Come see us at Kensington Ag and we can walk you through the whole setup.

Anyone who’s spent a full day in an excavator knows the struggle of "joystick hand" at the end of the shift. 🚜

The Kubota U17-5 finally tackled this by adding new wrist rests right where you need them. They aren't just there for show—they give your arms a solid break so you aren't fighting the machine all day. It’s a simple change that makes a massive difference for your wrists and forearms.

We have these units ready to go at Kensington Ag. Stop by and see if you notice the difference in the seat.

Who else is glad to see manufacturers finally paying attention to operator comfort? 🙋‍♂️

We have all done it!

There is nothing quite like the 5 seconds of panic when your excavator joysticks don't work. Before you hop out to check the engine, make sure you’ve engaged the hydraulic lock lever on the left side of the seat.

It’s a simple safety step that saves a lot of headaches (and unnecessary service calls).

Have you ever "forgotten" to put the lever down in front of a client? Tell me the story below! 👇

Stop grinding your tracks into your clients' driveways. 🛑

I see this all the time with the Kubota U17-5. If you're expanding your tracks while the machine is sitting flat, you're doing two things: you're sandpapering your rubber tracks and you're leaving a mess on the ground that you'll have to fix later.

The "Hover Squeeze" is the way to go. Use the boom and blade to get the weight off, let the tracks float, and move them freely. It saves the machine and, more importantly, it saves your reputation on the job site.

Is this how you were taught to do it, or are you still doing it the hard way?

Most contractors adjust their mini excavator tracks the wrong way, and it’s costing them money in premature wear and expensive property damage claims. In this...
