Recently, we carried out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) on a relatively new installation. At first glance, everything appeared to be in good condition — however, during ring continuity testing, we identified a fault on one of the circuits.

After returning to investigate further, we traced the issue back to a bespoke shelving unit that had recently been installed by a joinery company. The integrated LED strip lighting had been connected incorrectly, without the involvement of a qualified electrician.

Fortunately, this fault was identified during testing before it had the chance to develop into a more serious issue.

This is exactly why regular EICR testing and preventative electrical maintenance are so important for both homeowners and businesses. Even on newer installations, hidden faults and unauthorised alterations can go unnoticed without proper inspection and testing.
