When you get a quote for $10 a square foot for replacing asphalt driveway with interlock, chances are they will just remove the asphalt and put the pavers directly on top of the existing base. The problem is, most existing asphalt bases are just 4-6 inches deep filled with crush run. There’s hardly any space for water drainage and your pavers will be pushed up by frozen water during winter. And to fix this, you basically have to redo the whole thing…

In order to pass city inspection for a deck attached to brick veneer, you will need 2-2x8 rim boards lag bolted to the house's rim board and support it with 6x6 posts on galvanized steel brackets, fastened to the concrete foundation wall with 2 expansion bolts.

I know it sounds like a lot, but this is how you protect the integrity of both the deck and the house.
