The weather seemed to realize I was in dire need of a water day. So it delivered a glorious, perfect weekend.
When you see the wind surfers, it’s not a great day for the stand up paddle boarders (like me!) and the wind surfers had a fantastic season with the wind this year summer! I did not. But this October weekend? This was all mine.

Ya ya, wallet, agenda, notepad, snack, occasionally a water bottle or laptop….and then a handful of allen keys, couple of cellular shade adjusters, a random drapery just in case I come across a rogue pleat, hex head screw, magnetized hex head drill bit, teeny tiny screwdrivers (even a teensy multi-bit one), 25 foot tape measure, couple of heavy duty sharpies and my Bosch laser measurer. Duh. What’s in yours?

Sometimes life gets a little hectic, a little overwhelming, and you just want to bust something up.
So I grabbed my drywall saw, made my way to my client’s empty condo, and started carving out holes in the drywall to see what was behind the walls.
Plans are almost complete for this condo, but sometimes you open the walls and think “oh, s**t! THAT wasn’t on my radar!”
So now, I have fewer surprises when demo starts, and I have a new way of meditating.
Who needs a yoga mat when you have a drywall saw??
Video coming shortly!

I love this cute, strong little cat, keeping me company and holding up my pen as I work. The third one reflects my sentiment after hella long days.

Just a sneak peek at the kitchen….wood counter will be installed on the island in Spring of 2024….one of the many challenges of this project, aside from the logistics in transporting materials, has been the hard deadline on completing work before the island closes for the winter.
The wood countertop supplier felt it would yield a more successful outcome to acclimate the countertop in his unheated warehouse for the winter, before installing, so we agreed. And now I have to be satisfied with this unfinished kitchen until 2024, which feels so weird to say out loud!! 2024?!?!

This project has been a long journey, started in August of 2021, and 99.9% done!
Won’t be showing you much of the inside until more of the finishing details are completed next May (island closes in about 10 days, which means no more access, so we are running out of time to get some of the last items completed, so we are pushing that to 2024)
Here is a before and after of where we started and where we are now! Next year we also tackle landscaping!

At this project, the island closes in the fall, so all water lines have to be drained and flushed.
Having a countertop over the washer was a bit problematic in terms of easy access, so we Macgyvered a clever solution! Also added felt at the edges of the counter so it wouldn’t scratch up the wall as it was raised! (And yes, we have paint touch up to complete)

How else would you carry a chair 275 metres to the ferry?

Why Wow?

Founded by Joanne Padvaiskas in 2003, we do everything from major renovations (our favourite thing!) to one-time consultations for some guidance or design advice.

We call ourselves “Wow, Great Place” because that is the reaction we want people to have when they see your space. Call us whatever you like, “Wow, what a great room”, “Wow, nice house”, “Wow, that’s so cool”, just as long as you remember “WOW!” you will find us!

For major projects, since it normally takes several weeks or months to complete, we become your new best friend, holding your hand as the walls come down, talking you through your choices, and mediating between spouses/partners as they make decisions in an emotionally charged environment, because sometimes, renovations means you get to see how well a couple works together, or does not work together! Our job is to help you through the whole process!

Feel free to contact us should you have any comments, questions or would like to book a meeting. Let us show you what we can do for you... We can be reached by text/telephone (if it goes to voice mail, send a text or an e-mail, cause really, who uses voice mail anymore?)
