"Next morning after a late breakfast, the wizard was sitting with Frodo by the open window of the study. A bright fire was on the hearth, but the sun was warm, and the wind was in the South. Everything looked fresh, and the new green of Spring was shimmering in the fields and on the tips of the trees' fingers."

Hello again. Look what I found at a customers house. Some fresh and ripe pawpaw fruit. Sweet like mango (like a very sweet mango), texture almost like a banana. What a treat!

Asimina triloba is native, not just to Ontario, but Southwestern Ontario, literally native to Niagara and along Lake Erie. This tree needs at be cross pollinated from two genetically distinct plants. Rare to find in grocery stores as this fruit bruises easily, and ripens fast.

The last frost, usually mid May, is fast approaching. Have you considered what you are planting in your garden beds? Perhaps a fruit tree in your yard?

Canada celebrated it's first official Earth Day in 1990, 20 years after the United States who started this global trend. Now, more than 193 countries participate in this event that provides and encourages environmental awareness, plans, and actions.

Here is my son from 5 years ago in our backyard surrounded by edible trees, bushes and plants. I love teaching them how to plant and grow these various culinary species of plants.

Forsythia (Forsythia x intermedia), a great harbinger of spring!

All though a non native species to Ontario, it sure is a popular one. When I see this plant bloom, it is a great indicator that the growing season is upon us. I like to make sure that garden beds are cleaned, trees are trimmed, lawnmowers and small engines are in order, and above all, my body is good and stretched, because the property maintenance season is in full swing.

It also looks beautiful indoors in a vase during our Easter lunch.

I sure do love spring. I especially love that smell, you know what I'm talking about? That smell, especially when after it rains?

What you're smelling is actually called "wet dirt". Fancier people than me would call it "petrichor" the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. Even fancier people would describe you smelling a compound which is produced by certain soil bacteria.

Ready to get your hands (and feet) dirty in the vegetable garden?
A reminder to get your seedlings ready. We have about six more weeks before the last threat of frost this season (May 24th).

Need help with creating a vegetable bed? Let me know.

These trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) grow in my front garden bed, and this picture was taken on May 8th, 2023. White trillium start to turn a little pink as the flower matures, as you can see from the flower on the very right. This means these flowers are about two weeks old. I am interested to compare when these flowers will bloom this year. So far, nothing green has emerged from the spot where these flowers live.

The second picture is from April 21st. Plants emerging. I think garden beds will be exploding with green very soon.

My original work truck 1996 GMC Sierra. If I had a place at the time where I could park it " 'round back " it would still be with us. My truck now can fit my family of five, so it was a good upgrade.
