Panels don't do much in the winter, right?"

Common assumption around here. Panels run on light, not heat — a cold, clear January day is good conditions for a panel. Winter output drops because the days are shorter and the sun sits lower, not because it's cold out.

Snow is the real variable. A light dusting slides off on its own once the panel warms up. A heavy dump cuts production until it melts off.
