This entryway trim took quite a beating from a determined (and apparently very hungry) K9. We removed all the damaged wood, custom-fit and installed new trim, replaced the damaged weather stripping to restore a proper seal, and brought the sidelight back to looking clean, solid, and ready for paint.

A ceiling fan doesn’t actually change the temperature of a room—it changes how the air moves. Choosing the correct direction can make your home feel more comfortable and even help reduce your heating or cooling costs.

☀️ Summer: Counterclockwise (Viewed from Below)

In the summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise at a medium or high speed.

Why?

* The blades push air downward, creating a breeze across your skin.
* That moving air speeds up the evaporation of sweat, making you feel 3–5°C (5–8°F) cooler even though the room temperature hasn’t changed.
* Because you feel cooler, you can often raise your air conditioner thermostat by a couple of degrees and still remain comfortable, which can save energy.

How to tell it’s correct:
Stand directly under the fan. You should feel a noticeable breeze.

❄️ Winter: Clockwise (Viewed from Below)

In the winter, your fan should spin clockwise on the lowest speed.

Why?

* Warm air naturally rises and collects near the ceiling.
* A clockwise-spinning fan gently pulls air upward toward the ceiling, forcing the warm air trapped there to travel down the walls and back into the living space.
* This improves the overall temperature balance in the room without creating a cold draft.
* Your furnace doesn’t have to work as hard because the warm air is being redistributed instead of staying near the ceiling.

How to tell it’s correct:
You should not feel a breeze while standing underneath the fan. If you do, it’s either spinning the wrong direction or running too fast.

⚠️ Thinking about having your foggy windows “defogged” by drilling holes? Read this first. ⚠️

We see this all the time.

Some companies advertise a process where they drill small holes into your insulated glass to let the moisture escape. While this may reduce the fogging for a while, it does NOT fix the failed seal.

In fact, it often creates a whole new problem.

As you can see in these photos:
🔹 The drilled hole leaves the sealed unit open to the outside.
🔹 Spiders, insects, dirt, dust, and moisture can now get trapped between the panes of glass.
🔹 Once they’re inside, there’s no way to properly clean them out.

So instead of a foggy window, you’re left with bugs, cobwebs, and debris permanently sealed between the glass.

A failed sealed unit needs to be replaced, not patched. Replacing the insulated glass restores the window’s energy efficiency, clarity, and appearance—the way it was designed to perform.

Don’t spend money on a temporary fix that can make the problem worse.
