Details taking shape.

This Kanata Lakes renovation is a study in transformation, reworking the main and second floors to create a home that feels more cohesive, functional and refined.

The kitchen brings together custom cabinetry, a quartz waterfall island and a curved oak tambour hood detail, while the surrounding living spaces introduce integrated cabinetry, built-in storage and a dedicated workspace. Throughout the home, new flooring, lighting, millwork and carefully planned details bring a sense of continuity from one space to the next.

Even the quieter moments were given attention, from radiant in-floor heating in the foyer and select spaces to a custom carpet runner, maple-stained handrail and tailored bathroom details.

Kaylie Chamberlin, owner of ARTium Design Build and Just Basements, was recently invited to join eight of Ottawa’s leading women in design and construction for a roundtable on the evolution of the housing industry, hosted by All Things Home (All Things Home).

Kaylie’s path to ARTium and Just Basements began in the HVAC trade, three decades deep, before design + build became her true calling. She took the helm of both companies in 2025. In the piece, she speaks to something we see daily in this work: the quiet, cumulative proof of showing up prepared, and letting the work speak for itself.

A kitchen’s most hardworking spaces can be some of its most beautiful.

Across three of our past renovation projects, butler’s pantries and secondary prep areas take on a life of their own, tucked just beyond the main kitchen, where thoughtful details make room for both function and beauty.

Illuminated glass-front cabinetry, considered hardware, generous work surfaces and discreet storage create dedicated spaces for prep, serving and specialty appliances, while allowing the main kitchen to remain composed and uncluttered.

It’s a reminder that the spaces behind the scenes can be every bit as considered as the ones designed to make an impression.

A Stittsville basement designed around the ritual of wellness.

Designer Carley is transforming the lower level into a private fitness and recovery retreat, bringing together a dedicated home gym, a custom sauna finished in warm wood planks and glass, and a cold plunge tub designed for the space.

What begins as framing and drywall is taking shape as something much more considered: a space to train, recover, and reset, all within the home.

Before → After ✨

This primary bedroom transformation is part of a complete condo renovation with a very personal new chapter.

The condo had previously been used as a rental, and once the owners took the space back for themselves, they decided it was time for a top-to-bottom transformation. Their vision was for the entire condo to feel elevated, chic, sophisticated, and thoughtfully designed—and the primary bedroom was no exception.

The original bedroom lacked the character and cohesion the homeowners were looking for. We transformed it into a warm, sophisticated retreat with a dramatic wood-slat feature wall, layered neutral textiles, soft lighting, tailored furnishings, and rich tones that add depth and contrast.

Every detail was selected to create a sense of continuity with the rest of the condo while giving the bedroom its own luxurious, inviting feel.

From former rental to a space that truly feels like home. 🤎
