When working on siding, we are always thinking about water intrusion and how water can give us - or the client - a bad day. Though there are "superior" products, Tyvek is a great, inexpensive option. That being said, no matter how much money you spend on the weather barrier product, you will still have vulnerabilities. One that we have identified, is the base off the wall where the framing meets the foundation. In this scenario, where framing meets a relatively smooth and clean foundation, it's a no brainer to prime and blue skin the junction to prevent water from sneaking in the joint and entering the home. Where we're unable to do that (like where framing sits on top of a rubble wall) we seal the wood framing to prevent rot, and then caulk the joint to prevent the same water intrusion. Once the building is sealed, we then add a drip edge, bug screen, and rain screen for the best possible building envelope you can get.
In building, water is not your friend, would you normally let someone who's not your friend into your home?
