🔥 Understanding WETT Inspections – What You Need to Know
WETT inspections (SITE® – System Inspections and Technical Evaluation) are designed to assess wood-burning appliances and chimney systems at different levels, depending on your needs.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
1️⃣ Visual Inspection
Best for home sales, insurance, or peace of mind.
✔ Non-invasive
✔ Checks visible components, clearances, and basic operation
✔ Identifies obvious issues
👉 May recommend a more detailed inspection if concerns are found
2️⃣ Technical Inspection
Best when concerns are identified or systems haven’t been used in a while.
✔ Includes everything in a visual inspection
✔ Hands-on review (may remove panels, check attic, access roof)
✔ More detailed assessment of the system
👉 May lead to an invasive inspection if needed
3️⃣ Invasive Inspection
Best for suspected damage or when required by insurance/authorities.
✔ Accesses hidden components (walls, ceilings, chimney structure)
✔ Most in-depth level
✔ Used for serious concerns like chimney fires or structural issues
📝 All inspections include a written report noting whether items are compliant, not compliant, not applicable, or unable to inspect.
⚠️ Important: WETT inspectors do NOT “certify” systems. Inspections may recommend repairs, cleaning, or further evaluation before use.
If you’re unsure which level you need, a WETT inspector can help guide you.
