How to Choose the Look of Your Concrete Floor

The one thing about polished concrete floors is that no two are the same. The final look will depend on several factors!
How much sand, natural stone and aggregate is in the mix when its poured.
How close to the surface of the slab is the sand and aggregate.
Condition of the slab.
So...when asking about finishes and final outcomes we will discuss all of this with you.

Common types of finishes:

➡️Creme Finish
This is a very subtle..almost marble look finish. It can have darker and lighter shades once sealed. Very modern look.

➡️Salt and Pepper Finish
A light grind finish that reveals the sand and fine aggregate in the finish. A very clean look.

➡️Terrazzo Finish
A heavier grind that exposes the stone and aggregate in the concrete. Bold and interesting as the stones can sometimes have unique color and shape to them. A decorative finish.

Once the finish is chosen, we grind, polish and seal creating YOUR unique concrete floor. That is both durable and low maintenance. 😁

💡The choice of finish will depend on your existing concrete. Every slab is different and the final finish will depend on its condition.

Realistic Expectations for Polished Concrete Floors

You are in the market for a polished concrete floor, so you do your due diligence when you hire the trade and find photos of what you would like and then present that stating " i want this"😀

This is a great starting point, however, this is just the beginning idea. The reality we try to convey to clients is that no 2 concrete floors are ever identical.

Concrete is a natural product and each floor will have its very own characteristics. The finished product and its appearance will depend on several factors:👇

How was it originally poured?
How was it originally finished?
How much aggregate and the size of that aggregate, was in the mix?
How old is that slab?
Does it have multiple pours or has it been patched over time?
Are there stains, cracks, small repairs or any imperfections?
Once the grinding starts, some floors will expose consistent aggregate, some will have a creamy look or a salt and pepper look, some will have color variations and if it has had multiple pours you can get transition variations.
This is what gives each floor its own unique look!🤩
While polished concrete floors are clean, durable and .......lets not forget BEAUTIFUL ..... all should be appreciated for the unique one of kind floor they are!

Your interior polished concrete is the canvas that pulls everything together in your home and thus requires maintenance. So if your polished concrete is looking dull...it may be time for a re polish. If water droplets turn the concrete dark until it dries...it may be time for a re seal.

Nothing nicer than a note from a happy client🤩
This was a great week at a clients home where they requested that we grind, polish and seal the stamped concrete of their outdoor living space. They were not a fan of the existing profile of the concrete, so decided to have it ground flat to a Terrazzo finish. Then out to the exposed aggregate driveway and front entry where we pressure washed clean, repairedsome cracks and finally sealed!

Maintenance! Makes for easier work in the future!! In 2024 this patio was dirty, covered in moss growth. A good cleaning then application of a penetrating sealer made this patio look renewed! Fast forward to 2026...a little dirty..but ZEO moss growth! The ONLY moss was chunks that had blown off the roof! So a light wash to rwmove the dirt, allowed to dry then applied a penetrating sealer and voila...clean and inviting again!
