Some properties have bee converted from low-pressure gas systems to 2 PSI service without a he homeowners knowledge. Many household gas appliances are not designed to receive 2 PSI directly and require properly installed regulators to reduce the pressure to a safe operating level.
If the correct regulators are not installed or are failing, excessive gas pressure can potentially damage furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, stoves, dryers, and other gas appliances.
