We have been busy this season!!! 🐝 March and April are always about awakening the gardens for our maintenance crew. Spring cleaning is such an amazing moment in the garden, observing winter impact, replenishing soil nutrition, preparing for the season ahead. March was very wet but we had a mild winter so there isn’t much “ice in the freezer” which is going to have intense impact come August. Knowing this, our goal ahead of time is to help our clients and their gardens prepare for anticipated weather impact later this year. On the upside, the mild winter and recent very warm weather is resulting in an amazing spring snow this year! Which could very likely mean a better growing season than we are used to. It’s going to be an interesting season. Nature is always speaking and giving us clues.

Why hiring a designer matters?
We see potential. And it we’re good, we are extremely resourceful.
My client had a massive 100’ tree come down on his property and his neighbours. Being on an island makes access exponentially more difficult - every move matters, every boat trip, every hour. The thing is, we’ve been on this relationship for nearly a decade, so he trusts me. Trusts who I call in to collaborate, trusts how I think the project should unfold. That’s because I understand project sequencing and efficiency deeply. I was able to direct & assist in the effort to deal with not only the tree fall, but had the off the cuff idea why not make some furniture with the wood segments. Instead of the cost of hauling this material away, we made these functional benches.
A fun surprise for my client & all part of the experience.
When your designer gets you, like really gets you, they anticipate your needs and wants, they advocate for your best interest, and they protect the relationship.
Thanks for the gorgeous work 🪵 just like that, we’ve created a new space to take in the view while being resourceful and smart. That’s a win.

January is …
the crown of the year, like a full body inhale after being emptied and out of breath. The year we just left behind, in close proximity, as our ‘recent past’… while the year before us, currently a mystery. January offers us this pause we find nowhere else in the year - a deep quiet, a reset, a rest. Everything in nature around us echos the call to get quiet, go inward, reflect, rest. January knows what we often forget - that warmth will return, that busy will resume, that there will again be fruit on the vine, phones and emails and texts and long days, all kinds of activity. But January calls us to a different rhythm, another pace. I think January is the most undervalued month in a year for the mental gains we can make if we accept the invitation. It’s not necessarily comfortable & certainly we can override it if the knee jerk automated response prefers to play. But January quietly invites curiosity about reflection. A willingness to lay down the versions of ourselves that just keep pace for the ones who need this reset we can only get deep in winter.

This one hurts. 😭 Said goodbye today to this absolute legend of man, and stellar human. Anyone who runs a business knows when you find a quality person, they’re worth their weight in gold. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the work effort sweat and good times we had this season, one of the most challenging years in business for me ever. One of the things that kept me going was the solid team I had at my side so it is no small thing, this gratitude. And I hate goodbyes.
My Italian import heads south tomorrow 🇵🇪 as he continues to travel the world 🌍
he will be ever so greatly missed by those privileged enough to have known him.
Paolo, you’re one of the good ones my friend, one of the best. Take good care of yourself, keep pursuing those dreams. Thank you for everything ❤️
