Last Chance to Save The Secret Cove Forest
Attention all Tree Huggers: Our region could be facing the loss of another forest with many old-growth like features to clearcut logging. If you like Big Trees and not Big Stumps then come out to our walk-in-the-woods event. A new trail goes deep into the interior of this forest. Learn about this local unique ecology and what’s at stake.
BC Timber Sales (BCTS) has Blk TA0545 imposed over this area which ELF has been tracking for a few years. BCTS Planners should be aware of its high biodiversity, high recreational values and critical habitat.
This forest is also mapped as an at-risk ecosystem and all things considered should become a protected conservation area. You can make a positive difference by completing a take-action postcard to be distributed to the group.
Our report on The Secret Cove Forest is found at: https://elf-tr.org/2025-elf-reports/
Meet Sunday, March 29th @ 10:00 am behind the Claytons grocery store (near the charging stations) and car-pool to the site.
Suitable for families who want to educate the next generation on environmental issues.
If you live in Halfmoon Bay or Secret Cove meet at the intersection of Sans Souci Rd and Hwy 101 by 10:30 am.

Wednesday, Apr 1 from 5 pm to 7 pm
Overview
A book launch at the Beer Farm in Gibsons!

Join us at the Beer Farm to celebrate the new book by acclaimed local writer, Robert Moor: In Trees: An Exploration. The book promises to be a wondrous journey through the wilds of nature and the gnarls of history, exploring how trees — from the mightiest sequoia to the tiniest bonsai — can teach us to grow wise.

One day, on a whim, Robert set out to climb a tree near his home — unwittingly embarking on what would become a decade-long adventure of intellectual and spiritual transformation, leading him to spend time in trees around the world. Along the way, Moor learns the art of “tree-thinking,” which, he discovers, has the power to break open some of humanity’s oldest questions: What is the secret to truly growing old? How do we set down deeper roots in an increasingly chaotic world? Most importantly, how should we — as individuals, as communities, as stewards of the earth — live?

A witty and relentlessly curious excursion through philosophy, history, and science, what begins as an ode to the miracle of trees blossoms into a joyous, daring, fiercely hopeful endeavour to arborize humanity.

This event takes place in Persephone’s tasting room, with books on site for sale and signing. And of course, there will be beer. RSVPs are not mandatory but help us consider numbers, so please RSVP here if you plan on attending. Thank you!

Sunday March 15th join other hikers as we venture into the Cedar Knowledge Forest. Meet at the SCRD parking lot (top of Field Rd, off Hwy 101) at 10am. We'll drive 12 minutes to one of the nearest temperate rainforests (still intact) in our area. Moderate ranking for the average hiker due to one steep section. 2-3 hours.
