This is a project we did last winter and spring. The homeowner wanted a clean look, but also wanted to have a cottage style garden. Tina-Louise Harris of Originelle Designs Photography captured both of these styles with her beautiful photography.

We used a formal paver for the walkways and patio, and softened the straight lines with an informal planting design.
We also created a garden 'room' by separating the fire pit from the rest of the back yard with a low, dividing fence connected to an arbour. The fence was built in the same design as the railings on the house deck for unity and continuity.
We dressed up the front steps by mortaring stone tiles to the rather drab plain concrete steps that were existing. This garden will just improve with age as the plantings fill in, and will complement the excellent work done on the exterior of the house by West Coast Renovations.

Encourage and help out early pollinators such as this Big ole Bumble Bee by planting a variety of plants in your landscape. This is an under rated spring blooming perennial called Pulmonaria, or Lungwort. It is almost evergreen with attractive spotted foliage and beautiful true blue flowers for a couple of months from March through April. It is a lovely accompaniment to spring flowering bulbs such as tulips and daffodils. It also does best in partial shade so it brightens up the darker parts of your garden. It also come in whites and some pinks. Give it a try and help out our friendly bee populations!

This year's lucky winner of our draw for an iPad Air 2 at the Home show is Debbie from Langley. She told me that the night before I called her, she had been thinking that she needed an iPad. Looks like the universe was listening! Congratulations Debbie!
Thanks to everyone who came to the show and entered our draw.

Another harbinger of spring! This beautiful flower is Iris reticulata. It is a small, crocus-sized bulb available to be planted in the fall along with tulips and daffodils. It loves full sun and lean soils. This clump has been showing its lovely colours for the past 20 years, so a great investment!

Happy New Year everyone! Pacific Garden Design continues to work, even throughout the winter!
This is a project we finished before Christmas that I'm proud of. The homeowners never used their pool and wanted a more inviting yard in which they could sit in the shade of a gazebo and look out at a beautiful garden. We went with an Asian inspired design with a plant palette of green to create a restful place to sit and relax.
It won't be all relaxation though, as we also built them a raised stone vegetable garden to grow their own veggies.
