At Aecon's Annual General Meeting this week, our Board of Directors conferred upon Founder John M. Beck the title of Chairman Emeritus, recognizing his extraordinary 60-plus-year career building a world-class company with a distinguished reputation.

John’s career started in 1963 when he joined his family's concrete business in Montreal after graduating from McGill Engineering. Through the decades, the company embarked on a remarkable journey of mergers, acquisitions, and organic growth, rebranding to Aecon in 2001. John's strategic vision has shaped the company we are today: a diverse, multidisciplinary North American infrastructure leader with global expertise.

Under John's leadership, Aecon has delivered some of the most remarkable landmark projects of this generation. John is a trailblazer - his legacy and contributions over his award-winning career will forever be linked to Aecon’s success. As we move forward, we're working to build the next era of infrastructure that will enable future generations to thrive.

Today, it was announced that Arctic Gateway Group, an Indigenous and community-owned business, and Aecon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) etestablishing a collaboration framework to explore strengthening Canada’s northern trade corridor and Arctic sovereignty through infrastructure advancement related to the Port of Churchill in Manitoba.

Under the MOU, Aecon and AGG will collaborate to pursue and develop project opportunities in connection with the development of the Port of Churchill and Hudson Bay Railway – leveraging Aecon’s diverse construction and infrastructure development expertise and AGG’s established Indigenous and economic development leadership in northern Canada.

This important forum brings together Indigenous women leaders from across industries to share insights, experiences and perspectives on leadership, community impact and advancing reconciliation.

Aecon teams reached an important milestone on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension – Elevated Guideway project recently, with the completion of the first bridge span. This is the first of 35 bridge spans on the 1.5 km-long guideway, which will carry trains over the Humber River, as part of the extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT from Mount Dennis Station.

Congratulations to the team on this milestone. We’re looking forward to the guideway taking shape!

Les équipes d’Aecon ont récemment franchi un jalon important dans le cadre du projet de voie de guidage surélevée du projet de prolongement vers l’ouest de la ligne Eglinton Crosstown, avec l’achèvement de la première travée du pont. Il s’agit de la première des 35 travées de la voie de guidage de 1,5 km, qui permettra aux trains de franchir la rivière Humber, dans le cadre du prolongement du TLR Eglinton Crosstown à partir de la station Mount Dennis.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada - a time to honour the heritage, contributions, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples and reflect on what we can all do to advance Reconciliation.

Last week, the Woodland Cultural Centre (WCC) hosted a national gathering to explore a joint UNESCO World Heritage nomination for former residential school sites across Canada. This gathering reflects WCC’s commitment to preserving and sharing Indigenous history, fostering dialogue, and supporting Indigenous-led initiatives in cultural heritage preservation. Aecon was proud to support this gathering, allowing survivors, site stewards, researchers, and community leaders to collaborate on a coordinated nomination strategy.

Juin est le Mois national de l’histoire autochtone au Canada - une occasion de rendre hommage au patrimoine, aux contributions et à la diversité des Premières Nations, des Inuits et des Métis et de réfléchir à ce que nous pouvons tous faire pour faire progresser la réconciliation.

La semaine dernière, le Woodland Cultural Centre (WCC) a organisé un rassemblement national pour explorer une nomination conjointe de l’UNESCO au patrimoine mondial pour les anciens sites de pensionnats partout au Canada. Ce rassemblement témoigne de l’engagement du WCC à préserver et à partager l’histoire autochtone, à favoriser le dialogue et à soutenir les initiatives autochtones de préservation du patrimoine culturel. Aecon est fière d’avoir appuyé ce rassemblement, qui a permis aux survivants, aux intendants des sites, aux chercheurs et aux dirigeants communautaires de collaborer à une stratégie de mise en candidature coordonnée.
