Proud to share that the Fulmer Family Centre for Childhood Studies at Capilano University has achieved LEED Gold certification! 🌱A testament to thoughtful, sustainable design.

From a mass timber structure that reduced embodied carbon, to rainwater management systems handling the 90th percentile storm event, all our decisions aimed at minimizing environmental impacts. The building runs on 42.6% less energy than code baseline, uses 91% less irrigation water, and earned full marks for low-emitting materials, which means healthier air for children and educators.

Sustainability here goes beyond performance numbers. All-gender restrooms, 100% LED lighting, quality views, EV charging, and a 73% reduction in parking all reflect a building designed for people just as much as the planet.

Whether utilizing innovative organics processing and greenhouse technology to transform wastewater into a resource for the LEED Gold Sechelt Water Treatment Centre💧; integrating advanced helium recycling systems for the UBC Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute🥼; or, implementing a high-performance seismic timber structure for the LEED Gold KPU Wilson School of Design🌲, our goal remains: architecture that gives more than it takes.

Sustainable design is about creating resilient spaces where culture and nature can thrive together.

The future of Vancouver’s schoolyards is taking shape at Sir Wilfred Grenfell Elementary.

Public Architecture is proud to lead the seismic upgrade and site reimagining for this pilot project. Funded by BC Parks, this initiative explores a new model for outdoor learning spaces—one that the School District and City hope to implement across the entire city.

By facilitating workshops with students and key stakeholders, PUBLIC is helping bridge the gap between education and the natural environment. Big thanks to our partners at ISL Landscape Architects and the BC Parks Foundation for a successful day of co-creation!
