This is about more than being environmentally friendly.

Performance and Efficiency central to how we build.

By implementing building science best practices we are able to increase your comfort, save you money on energy, and reduce your long term carbon footprint.

Beyond that our high performance projects are better equipped to manage a changing climate. We pay close attention to water management details which keeps your home structurally sound during seasons of large rain storms. Our air sealing details keep out wild fire smoke. And our insulation details keep your home from freezing during winter power outages.

With the cost of energy steadily increasing, our approach to high performance will save you money over the time you own your home even if it is more upfront.

Sustainability is one of our core values here at Roost Custom Builders. We were quite pleased to be able to source these unique cedar shingles for our river heights exterior refresh project as they check quite a few of our sustainability boxes. These cedar shingles are sustainable in that they were 1) milled less than 100km from where we are installing them, sustaining local business and reducing emissions from transport 2) they are made from old power line poles and sawmill offcuts, keeping these materials from landfills while giving these shingles a low embodied energy from the start. And 3) wood products are a renewable resource and with proper forest management can help to sequester carbon in our buildings while making the beautiful. Cedar shingles are timeless and buildings that are beautiful are better cared for and therefore they last longer which again lowers the embodied energy of a building.

We are very excited to start installing these cedar shingles on our river heights exterior refresh. Follow along on our stories to see the progress!

Safety first! We recently took some time between jobs to make a bunch of safety stations for our job sites. Before having these stations it was difficult to audit sites for required safety supplies. With these stations it is easy to see at a glance what is available and what needs replacing.
Having ppe and other safety supplies visible and in the same location at each of our job sites will increase the probability that our team will use them to work safe. When earplugs or safety glasses are in a bin buried in someone’s truck it is much less likely to be used than if they are in a convenient location. These are designed to be hung in our outhouses when the work is outside and then on our wire shelving when work turns inside.
What are your solutions for safety products?

With an expansive glass wall facing the Assiniboine river this kitchen blurs the lines between inside and out. The countertops pull in the greens from the elms and the willows on the river bank while the forest scene on the pantry walls gives you a sense of place.

We were honoured when DeLayne (he/they) asked if they could sit down with us a share a bit of their experience of being q***r in the trades. His pitch to us was this: “One of the most important things q***r folk do for each other is show that there is hope. Safer spaces do exist.”
At Roost Custom Builders we are striving to be a safer space for our employees, our customers, and everyone we interact with.
Happy Pride everyone!
