Story time! I recently finished this English-paper-piecing-hand-quilting-scrap-busting project. The scraps are from a throw-sized quilt I made for a school project in my last year of my education degree, when I didn’t have any more Music classes to take. The drastic switch from four years of arts to a full year of curriculum and policy kind of broke me. Aside from a few psychology classes, which I enjoyed, the one class that really kept me going was called “Art Across the Curriculum.” The final project was to just ✨make something✨ so, in the dead of winter, I decided to make a quilt. I don’t think I connected it to curriculum at all but it gave me a lot of life to invest in a creative project during an otherwise dreary time. The quilt and now this lil tote are both great reminders to me to take time to work on slow, creative, joyful projects.

New collar day for the pups!

Now that I’ve figured out how to make collars (there was one casualty — the price of learning something new!), they’re pretty fun! I could definitely be convinced to make more but, I have to say, I hate pricing things 🙈! It’s hard to calculate what percentage of materials were used and how much to charge for your time and skill. And then there’s Etsy or Ali express where you can get whatever you want for way less 🤷🏻‍♀️. I don’t know what the magic solution is. Let me know if you have it figured out!

I made this cutie wheat-coloured passport/field notes cover but I’m not sure WHO I made it for… it’s not quite right for me. Did I make it for you? 100% hand stitched vegetable tanned leather, dyed and treated (it will patina with time), ready for your next trip!

$50 CAD plus shipping if you want it! Local pickup in YWG available. $10 extra if you’d like your name/initials/✌️/🍄 stamped inside.

I made a shirt! It was supposed to be a dress. Mistakes were made and it didn’t fit my middle, so I cropped it and now it’s great! I have made this pattern as a dress before and, every time, it makes me really appreciate the time and energy it takes to make a button-up shirt. Also, it probably has too many buttons but it will NEVER GAPE 🤣.
Pattern: cropped :)

If you travelled over the winter break and you *didn’t* lose your suitcase and get sick immediately after returning home, *did you even really travel?* 😂😅.

My husband “lost” his carry-on suitcase after our flight was overbooked and he was forced to check it. It was accidentally tagged with someone else’s info but luckily we had an AirTag in it and were able to keep tabs on it! Unfortunately we didn’t get it delivered while on our trip but were able to track it down in the Frankfurt airport lost and found on our return flights. It was an adventure, that’s for sure.

Now that we’re home and recovered, I wanted to try making a vegetable tan leather key chain holder for my AirTag. I think it turned out pretty swell!

Very simple mend today! I like to hang my most regularly worn clothes on hooks where I can see and access them easily. I thought about restitching the tag but decided to crochet a soft wool loop instead. Cozy!

Happy Halloween from this Franken-drum repair! 🧵
Skin drums sound amazing but are very sensitive to temperature changes (me too, 💁🏻‍♀️). Replacing the whole drum head is the best (and priciest) solution but I wanted to see if I could give this one some extra life. So I bought some , took it all apart, added a few support stitches, and applied copious amounts of the stanky glue. After 72+ hours to set, it was time to put it all back together! Fingers crossed it all holds but so far, so good!

Stains are stories? I think my water bottle leaked electrolyte water one time. Cool story?
Anyway, I took my backpack almost entirely apart and restitched it so I could repair the straps and add a pocket. Worth it! I even made a reel about it! I must be a true elder-millennial because I find making reels *infuriating*! Maybe my phone is too old but maybe my old phone is just fine and technological advances aren’t as exciting as being able to make and mend stuff with your hands and share a simple photo of it when you’re done.

My next is this project I started almost ten years ago with scraps from a winter sunset-inspired quilt. Maybe it will become a wall hanging? TBD.

At some point, I finished the sweater. It’s cozy. I’m not sure if I’d make it again or if my hyper-fixation on knitting a sweater has been satisfied for good. I’d like to try a top-down pattern next, I think. Knitting really feels like a winter project for me, so I’ll certainly be taking a break to garden and play outside for summer. Pattern is by x
