YRT Grounding exothermic welding powder utilizes a thermite reaction at approximately 1,400°C to achieve complete molecular copper fusion, creating a permanent, low-resistance connection.

As shown in the photo, the exothermic weld permanently bonds the copper busbar to the grounding conductor in a substation, ensuring a maintenance-free connection capable of withstanding decades of service.

A site team called us last month. The welds were failing visual inspection and no one on site could identify the cause.

We sent a technician. He found the answer in the first five minutes.

The graphite mold had been used far beyond its service life. The cavity walls were visibly worn, the geometry was distorted, and no amount of technique or powder quality could fix a mold that had already given up. One mold swap later, the welds were clean and back to specification.

This is one of the most common causes of poor exothermic weld quality on site, and one of the most preventable. A worn cavity changes the joint volume, causes spatter, and produces cold or porous fusion regardless of what powder you use.

YRT Grounding graphite molds are machined from high-density, fine-grain graphite.
