Small yacht renovations may look simple to an outsider.

Replacing a table. Refreshing the seating. New lighting. Changing a few materials.

But on charter yachts, even small interventions usually involve a lot happening behind the scenes:
after defining the new look, everything has to fit into short maintenance periods between charters, while coordinating suppliers, contractors, transport logistics, production deadlines, precise onboard measurements, and carefully planned installation.

That is why charter managers rarely look for “just a designer.”

Most often, they need a team that understands the entire process: from concept design and technical development to production coordination and on-board ex*****on support.

In this project, the custom-designed tables were only one part of a wider yacht renovation for the new owners. Our role included design development, organizing production in Serbia, coordinating logistics, and planning the installation on board.

Because on successful yacht projects, good organization goes hand in hand with well-designed interiors.

Zamena stola. Osveženje sedenja. Nova rasveta. Promena nekoliko materijala.

Ipak, na charter jahtama čak i male intervencije obično podrazumevaju mnogo akcije iza scene:
posle definisanja novog izgleda kratke periode između chartera kada treba sve završiti, koordinaciju dobavljača, organizaciju izvođača i transporta, rokove proizvodnje, precizna merenja na jahti i pažljivo planiranje montaže.

Zato charter manadžeri retko traže “samo dizajnera”.

Najčešće im je potreban tim koji razume ceo proces od koncepta i tehničkog razvoja, do organizacije proizvodnje i podrške tokom izvođenja na plovilu.

Na ovom projektu, specijalno dizajnirani stolovi bili su samo deo renoviranja jahte za nove vlasnike. Naš posao uključivao je razvoj dizajna, organizaciju proizvodnje u Srbiji, koordinaciju logistike i planiranje montaže na jahti.

Jer kod uspešnih projekata, dobra organizacija prati odlično osmišljen dizajn.

At first glance, this house feels calm, sheltered, and almost understated. But behind that quiet exterior, the program is much richer than it first appears.

In addition to the main family spaces, the house also includes a library, office, guest area, and a sky lounge zone. What made this project especially interesting was not only designing each of these functions, but integrating them into one coherent whole without disturbing the calm character of the house.

That is often where a residential project becomes more demanding. Not in creating a beautiful façade, but in organizing many different ways of living, working, hosting, and relaxing so that the house still feels balanced and natural.

Na prvi pogled, ova kuća deluje mirno, ušuškano i nenametljivo. Ali iza tog smirenog spoljnog utiska krije se mnogo bogatiji program nego što se odmah vidi.

Pored glavnih porodičnih prostora, kuća obuhvata i biblioteku, kancelariju, gostinski deo i sky lounge zonu. Upravo je to ovaj projekat činilo posebno zanimljivim — ne samo osmisliti svaku od tih funkcija pojedinačno, već ih povezati u jednu skladnu celinu, a da kuća i dalje zadrži miran i prirodan karakter.

Tu porodične kuće često postaju najzahtevnije. Ne u tome da spolja izgledaju lepo, već u tome da se u njima jasno organizuju različiti načini života, rada, odmora i primanja gostiju, a da prostor i dalje deluje uravnoteženo.

The forward crew cabin and the galley that supports the entire vessel during small celebrations, business gatherings, and cruises along the Sava may not be the first spaces that draw attention, but for us, they are just as important as the representative salon.

On every project, we insist on approaching crew areas with the same level of dedication as the main guest spaces, because the crew is the one keeping the vessel operational, welcoming guests, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. If their environment is not logically organized, comfortable, and technically well resolved, it quickly affects the overall experience on board.

That is why we carefully considered proportions, storage capacity, natural light, ease of maintenance, and material durability here as well. The galley was designed to efficiently support events on the water, without improvisation and without compromising functionality.

For us, good yacht design is never only about aesthetics. It means creating conditions where everyone on board, including those who work behind the scenes, can perform at the level the project represents.

Pramčana kabina za posadu i kuhinja koja opslužuje celo plovilo tokom mini proslava, poslovnih okupljanja i plovidbi po Savi možda nisu prostori koji prvi privuku pažnju, ali su za nas jednako važni kao i reprezentativni deo broda.

Na svakom projektu insistiramo da se prostoru posade pristupi sa istom ozbiljnošću kao i salonu, jer upravo je posada ta koja održava plovilo funkcionalnim, dočekuje goste i brine da sve protiče besprekorno. Ako njihov prostor nije logično organizovan, dovoljno komforan i tehnički dobro rešen, to se vrlo brzo odrazi na celokupno iskustvo na brodu.

Zato smo i ovde vodili računa o proporcijama, skladišnom prostoru, prirodnom svetlu, jednostavnom održavanju i trajnosti materijala. Kuhinja je projektovana da može efikasno da podrži događaje na vodi, bez improvizacija i bez kompromisa u funkcionalnosti.

Za nas dobar dizajn na plovilu nikada nije samo pitanje estetike. On podrazumeva da svi koji borave i rade na njemu imaju uslove koji su dostojni standarda koji projekat predstavlja.

A yacht interior refit is never just about changing how the interior looks.

A good refit starts much deeper.
Before any material is selected, the yacht has to be understood layer by layer.

Structural elements, watertight bulkheads, built-in systems, maintenance access points, and weight distribution are just some of the aspects that need careful attention.

That is why, before any new design begins, it is important to define
what should remain unchanged, what can be improved, and what needs to be carefully redesigned.

Whether the project is small or large, the approach is always the same.
A yacht operates as a single system, and a good refit respects that.

That is where the real magic of refit projects begins.

Refit enterijera jahte nikada nije samo promena izgleda enterijera.

Dobar refit počinje mnogo dublje.
Pre nego što se izabere bilo koji materijal, jahta mora da se razume sloj po sloj.

Konstruktivni elementi, vodonepropusne pregrade, ugrađeni sitemi, pristupna mesta za održavanjem raspored masa - samo su neke stvari na koje moramo da obratimo pažnju.

I zato, pre bilo kakvog novog dizajna potrebno je odrediti
šta treba da ostane napromenjeno, šta može da se unapredi i šta mora pažljivo da se redizajnira.

Bez obzira da li je projekat mali ili veliki, pristup je uvek isti.
Jahta funkcioniše kao jedan sistem, i dobar refit to poštuje.

This family house in Brazil was designed as a home that offers calm, stability, and a strong connection with its surroundings. Long horizontal lines, warm natural materials, and a spacious covered terrace create a home that feels open, but still protected.

We believe it is not only important how a house looks from the outside, but also what kind of life it makes possible. Here, the pool, shaded outdoor area, and direct connection with the garden make the surrounding nature part of everyday life, not just something to look at.

This is not a house designed to impress at first sight. It was designed for its owners to enjoy every day.

Ova porodična kuća u Brazilu projektovana je kao dom koji pruža mir, stabilnost i snažnu vezu sa okruženjem. Duge horizontalne linije, topli prirodni materijali i prostrana natkrivena terasa stvaraju dom koji je otvoren, ali istovremeno i zaštićen.

Verujemo da nije važno samo kako kuća izgleda spolja, već kakav život omogućava. Ovde bazen, senoviti spoljašnji prostor i direktna veza sa vrtom čine okolnu prirodu delom svakodnevice, a ne samo nečim što se posmatra.

Minimalism in a kitchen is the ultimate design test.

There is no room for mistakes because everything is visible.

Matte black and natural wood create a clear contrast without relying on strong colors. Textures were carefully selected so the space feels stable and calm, not cold. Black fixtures and appliances are not accents; they are part of a controlled composition.

The U-shaped layout allows a precise workflow, while the openness toward the dining area keeps the connection with the rest of the apartment.

Simple at first glance but highly deliberate in reality.

Tu nema mesta za greške jer je sve vidljivo.

Mat crna i prirodno drvo grade jasan kontrast bez previše boja. Teksture su pažljivo birane da prostor ne deluje hladno, već stabilno i smireno. Crni detalji, baterija i tehnika nisu akcenat, već deo kompozicije.

U-forma omogućava precizan rad, a otvorenost ka trpezariji zadržava povezanost sa ostatkom stana.

Jednostavno na prvi pogled ali vrlo promišljeno u stvarnosti.

Rovinj is easy to fall in love with.
This phase of the project, for most people, much less.

Martin and I came back on site to walk through the house again while the project is still in its grey phase.

This is often the moment when clients feel unsure.
The structure is there, but the interior still feels far from finished, and it is hard to imagine how everything will come together.

That is exactly why this phase matters so much.
A good interior is not something you add at the end.
It takes shape much earlier, while everything still looks unfinished.

U Rovinj se lako da se zaljubi.

U ovoj fazi projekta, za većinu ljudi, više je manje.
Martin i ja smo se vratili na gradilište da prođemo ponovo kroz kuću dok je projekat još uvek u sivoj fazi.

Ovo je često trenutak kada se klijenti osećaju nesigurno. Osnova je tu, ali enterijer se još uvek čini daleko od završenog i teško je zamisliti kako će se sve spojiti.

Upravo zato je ova faza toliko važna.

Dobar enterijer nije nešto što se dodaje na kraju. On dobija oblik mnogo ranije, dok sve još uvek izgleda nedovršeno.

When you work on a very narrow vessel, every millimeter matters even more.

Kovin was a serious challenge; how to create a functional, representative space within a limited width, without anything feeling compressed or improvised.

What did we refuse to compromise on?
Craftsmanship.

Precisely executed wood paneling. Integrated lighting that highlights texture. A wine display fully embedded into the structure. Handles, joints, and upholstery are all carried out with the same level of attention.

In a historical refit, details are not decoration.
They are proof of the project’s integrity.

Because when space is limited, quality becomes even more visible.

Kada radite na vrlo uskom brodu, svaki milimetar postaje još važniji.

Kovin je bio veliki izazov; kako u tako ograničenoj širini dobiti funkcionalan, reprezentativan prostor, a da ništa ne deluje zbijeno ili improvizovano.

Na čemu nismo želeli da štedimo?
Na detaljima.

Precizno obrađena drvena obloga. Integrisana rasveta koja naglašava teksturu. Vitrina za vino uklopljena u konstrukciju. Ručke, spojevi, tapacirung, sve izvedeno sa istim nivoom pažnje.

Kod refita istorijskog plovila detalj nije dekoracija.
Detalj je dokaz ozbiljnosti projekta.

Jer kada je prostor ograničen, kvalitet izrade postaje još vidljiviji.

Although the space follows a circular architectural line, the clients wanted furniture with clean, straight geometry. Instead of forcing one logic over the other, we searched for balance. We found it in selected pieces from Prostoria - clear, linear forms that are soft enough not to conflict with the curved envelope of the room.

At first glance, the palette appears restrained, without strong color contrasts. However, a significant amount of time was dedicated to selecting textures. The contrast comes from materials: concrete, wood, and fabrics with different structures, all natural, tactile, and emphasized without being aggressive.

The TV is not positioned to dominate the space. When needed, it opens and becomes functional; when not in use, the room remains visually calm and free of distraction.

Lighting was carefully distributed to support different scenarios: evening gatherings, quiet reading, or watching a movie. Multiple coffee tables allow flexibility, adapting the layout to different numbers of guests without disturbing the overall composition.

The space looks simple. But that simplicity is the result of many deliberate decisions.

Iako prostor prati kružnu arhitektonsku liniju, klijenti su želeli nameštaj jasne, linearne geometrije.

Umesto da jednu logiku potisnemo drugom, tražili smo ravnotežu. Pronašli smo je u odabranim komadima Prostoria nameštaja, čiste forme koje ostaju mirne u zakrivljenom prostoru.

Paleta deluje suzdržano, ali kontrast dolazi iz materijala: betona, drveta i tekstila različitih struktura.

Televizor nije postavljen da dominira. Kada je potreban, otvara se i postaje funkcionalan; kada nije, prostor ostaje vizuelno miran.

Osvetljenje podržava različite scenarije: druženje, čitanje ili gledanje filma. Više klub-stolova omogućava fleksibilnost bez narušavanja kompozicije.

Prostor deluje jednostavno.
Ali upravo je ta jednostavnost rezultat pažljivo donetih odluka.

At first glance, the table feels monumental. The central piece of the space.

But in reality, it was one of the biggest challenges.

Below it, technical systems require weekly inspection.
The crew needed fast and simple access, without dismantling and without disrupting the interior.

The table dimensions were further limited by the hull slopes. Every centimeter was precisely defined.

At the aft side, the wall cladding has additional thickness.
Not for decoration, but to integrate an ultra-modern presentation screen.

On projects like this, design is not just form. It is the coordination of systems, structure, and aesthetics in one move.

When everything works, and nothing reveals the complexity behind it we know the project is successful.

Na prvi pogled, sto deluje monumentalno. Centralni komad prostora.

Ali upravo je on bio jedan od najvećih izazova.

Ispod njega se nalaze sistemi koji se proveravaju na nedeljnom nivou.
Posadi je morao biti obezbeđen lak i brz pristup, bez demontaže i bez komplikacija.

Dimenzije stola dodatno su bile ograničene kosinama korita. Svaki centimetar je bio precizno definisan.

Na krmenom delu, obloga ima dodatnu debljinu. Ne zbog estetike već zato što je u njoj integrisan ultra modelni ekran za prezentacije.

Na ovakvim projektima dizajn nije samo oblik. On je precizno osmišljeno rešenje koje poštuje sisteme, konstrukciju i estetiku u istom potezu.

Kada sve funkcioniše, a ništa se ne vidi, znamo da je projekat uspeo.

Many people think yacht design ends with renderings.
In reality, that’s where the real work begins.

Design is only valuable if it can actually be built, installed on board, and function well in everyday life at sea.

That’s why we stay involved long after the design phase: coordinating suppliers, checking details on site, and making sure the interior we designed can truly become part of the yacht.

Refit projects are never just about changing how a yacht looks.
They are about improving how the space works for the people who live and work on board.

This time, I’m sharing a short glimpse from a site visit where we coordinated installation details with our curtain and carpet suppliers for a yacht interior refit we are organizing this winter.

Mnogi veruju da je dizajn jahte formiran kad se izrade vizuelizacije. U stvarnosti, tada pravi posao tek počinje.

Dizajn ima vrednost samo ako zaista može da se izvede, ugradi na jahtu i omogući dobro funkcionisanje gostiju i posade na moru.
Zbog toga, Salt & Water tim ostaje uključen dugo nakon faze dizajna: koordinišemo dobavljače, proveravamo detalje na licu mesta i brinemo da enterijer koji smo projektovali zaista postane deo jahte.
Projekti refita nikada nisu samo promena izgleda jahte. Oni su način da se unapredi kako prostor funkcioniše za ljude koji na brodu uživaju ili rade.
