A little piece of Spanish history was made this week. Barcelona’s Sagrada Família has officially become the tallest church in the world with the completion of its central tower.

These photos were taken during our visit a few years ago and while the scale of the building was incredible, what we remember most was the light.

As the sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, the entire interior was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour. It was one of the most beautiful and unexpected sights we’ve experienced in Spain.

To think that construction began in 1882 and has now reached this remarkable milestone makes it even more special.
