Camino de Santiago September 2013

Camino de Santiago September 2013 Collection of photographs and memories from my Camino Frances 2013 My thoughts were simply that I should have done this a long time ago!

Before even arriving at St Jean, the little diesel train from Bayonne is an experience in itself, taking you up the mountain valleys through breath-taking scenery and beautiful hamlets along the way . The journey contrasts greatly with the TGV from Paris, zooming across the bland landscape of western France. On this final leg to the start of the walk most people probably have nervous thoughts and

doubts. For almost 2 years before, every fibre of my being was telling me to do this. St Jean itself is a lovely town; I feel that I didn’t do it justice, so must return some day.

Still planning on the Primitivo in September (health permitting!). Any others planning to walk around that time?

Currently planning (+ justifying) the camino primitivi for next year :-)

Anyone recognise this clip from The Way in Zariquiegui?! (I took a return walk last month from Cizur Menor)

My appologies if this sounds a bit nanny-state, however I'd like to strongly advise all long distance walkers to ensure they have a few sachets of re-hydration salts in their first aid kit. Without exageration these can be a genuine lifesaver to either yourself or a fellow pilgrim. On long hot trails you lose not only water but vital body salts and it is essential these are replenished.
I was once advised to add a sachet to my daily water for those long sparse sections with no villages or services.
