About Us

It all started in the UK at the age of 17 with my dream to build my own guitar complete with inlaid hummingbird design, inspired by the cover of one of my favourite albums at the time. The journey of learning to actualise that dream lead on to the desire to make my livelihood working with wood. After enrolling on a complete carpentry and joinery course, in 1979, I (Kurt Towner) qualified

and began building up a business from a workshop in my home. From those beginnings, I have sought to build up and constantly improve my experience and skills in both the workshop and site work. I gain great pleasure from care and attention to detail, pushing my edge and creating works that, in all probability, will outlive me. I have recently teamed up with friend and now partner, Nicole Tidmas, with whom I previously worked on a pub refurbishment. She shares my approach to work, adding her own creative dimension to any work we do together. After falling in love with the area of Massat here in the Ariège, and after a period of transition, we have chosen to make our lives and work here from our wooden home in Vallée de Bernède. Tout a commencé au Royaume-Uni, quand j'avais dix-sept ans, avec le rêve de fabriquer entièrement ma propre guitare avec un motif de colibri en marqueterie inspiré de la pochette de mon album favori de l’époque. Le chemin pour réaliser ce rêve m’a conduit à vouloir gagner ma vie en travaillant avec le bois. J’ai donc décidé de suivre une formation complète de menuisier-charpentier. En 1979 j’obtenais (Kurt Towner) mon diplôme et démarrais mon activité en créant mon propre atelier chez moi. Depuis lors, je n’ai cessé de chercher à développer et améliorer mon savoir-faire et mes compétences, aussi bien à l’atelier que sur les chantiers. Je m’applique à travailler avec minutie et précision pour créer des réalisations capables de traverser les âges. Récemment, je me suis associé avec une amie (Nicole Tidmas), avec qui j’avais travaillé sur une rénovation et qui est aujourd’hui ma compagne. Nous partageons la même approche du travail et elle apporte sa fibre créative à tous les travaux que nous réalisons ensemble. Nous sommes tombés amoureux de l’Ariège et après une période de transition, nous nous sommes installés à Massat, dans la Vallée de Bernède. Nous y vivons dans une maison en bois où se trouve également notre atelier.

Il y a plusiers années j’ai tombé amoureux de la région autour de Massat ici dans l’Ariège et, après une période de transition, j’ai choisi de faire ma vie ici avec ma copine et je me suis installé à Massat dans la Vallée de Bernède.
