CINTI - Corn husks are valued globally for craft projects due to their easy availability, thinness, lightness, and pleasant texture. In Thailand, they are prominently featured at the annual Loi Krathong festival, where they are transformed into beautiful Krathongs floating along rivers. At Ausara, we find corn husks to be fascinating materials. We dye them, iron them thinly, adhere them to non-woven backing, and apply a metallic top coat to enhance their beauty. The result? Baher is a handwoven textile blending recycled automobile seat belts, stainless steel threads, and polyester yarn. The belts are combed and cut, forming part of the weft, adding strength and subtle motion. Named after the Bretão, a Portuguese draft horse, Baher evokes power and grace. Its rich texture and metallic glints create a dramatic play of light and shadow.
