Nicolas Lefeuvre Art Artist WHY? Trigger

I started to do ink on paper following a serious accident in 2002…
Seeing death from a close distance pulled the trigger to do so.

My vision of life happened to be different. Not in a bad nor good way…

Signs, images, sounds, smells, colors of happy and sad moments from past and present came back in a rush in the head, like a complicated electric circuit…

I am trying to put it down, out of my mind in a simple way. A feeling of “life is nothing, and can go away in a second” becomes like a strong leitmotiv. Don’t think too m

uch, live as if there were no tomorrows. Simple things are the key for happiness.

The use of X, 1, 11, +, A+… is following a graphic intention to express life, death, love, existence, s*x, people, identity giving a stronger impact than words. Tools :

Giving an aesthetic dimension to the initial feelings I had, starting my life in Japan, kimono, getas, … automatically became natural tools for me to draw. Going away from the calligraphy yet keeping some similar intentions (as the gesture, the exciting “one shot” action , or like a definitive stain, as photography…). Shape and contradictions:

There is no basic “how and why” in what I am doing. It is all about graphic intentions translating contradictions that I have experienced here in Japan. Or maybe a way to understand extremes. How can they work together ? The interaction of a simple rough black shape hiding shades with too many complex feelings, signs .. Is there any communication in between? Where is the line? Can we guess signs, hints ? Between complexity and simplicity, I am trying to find the way. This the state I am in. I have no answer.
