Sometimes the best solution isn't what people first ask for.

When Tina and Tracy asked us about putting up some shelves, we could have done exactly that.

Instead, we spent time talking about how they actually used the room.
Between them they had books, CDs, folders, keepsakes, photographs, plants and memories collected over many years. A few shelves weren't going to do the job.
So we suggested something different.
A bespoke bookcase, designed specifically for their home.

Built to fit the room perfectly.
Built around the sloping ceiling.
Built to make use of every inch of available space.

The best part came a few days later when Tina sent us the final photos after they'd filled it.

That's when it stopped being a piece of furniture and became part of their home.
For us, that's what bespoke carpentry is all about.
It's not about making shelves.

It's about understanding how people live and creating something that genuinely improves their everyday lives.

The Artist's Desk

Some of the most rewarding projects are the ones you build for the people you love.

Sarah needed a larger workspace for her artwork, but nothing we found was quite right. So rather than compromising, We designed and built one from scratch.

Using our CNC, I created this bespoke birch plywood desk with flowing curves, clean lines and plenty of room to spread out and create. It's simple, strong and designed around the way Sarah works, making the most of every inch of her studio.

The best part wasn't finishing the desk. It was seeing Sarah move straight in with her paints, brushes and the latest pieces for her Love Yew art page. That's when a piece of furniture really comes to life.

This could be the first of what I may become a growing collection of handcrafted furniture designed and built right here in our workshop. Every piece can be tailored to suit your home, your workspace and the way you use it.

The brief was simple: the carpet had to go. Our customer had allergies, and getting rid of it made a real difference to how he feels at home day to day.

We stripped the first-floor carpet throughout, took off all the skirting boards, laid laminate across the landing, hallway and every bedroom, then reinstated the skirting for a proper fitted finish. The staircase carpet stayed by choice, and the transition between the two sits cleanly at the top of the stairs.

Practical work with a real reason behind it.

The old gate at this customer's home had rotted through, ironwork barely holding it together. Time for a proper replacement.

We headed over to Wentwood Timber and picked out some sweet chestnut slabs. The tree itself originally came from the Forest of Dean, so the timber hasn't travelled far to reach us.
Sweet chestnut is one of our favourites for outdoor work: naturally durable, high in tannin, and it weathers beautifully without chemical treatment.

Back at the workshop, Mark and I jointed the frame, fitted the boards, sanded it back and finished with a natural oil.
Black ironmongery to suit the setting.
Built to last decades, not years.
That's the whole point.

We had a bit of company recently with Love Yew in our workshop restoring this old rocking chair.

I have to say (unbiased), she has done a fantastic job.
Really. Just look at the lovely wood grain she has been able to bring out.
