All of a sudden you turn around and it’s March, and you realise that your feet haven’t touched the ground! Argh

At least the sun is shining, and I’ve been on site with kicking things off for a massive ground floor reconfig, retrofit and double extension project in Weston. Timber frame front and rear extension with wood fibre insulation, sedum roof, h**p insulation to the ground floor, air source heat pump and underfloor heating.

The rear extension is south facing, and I literally cannot wait to see this house open up onto the gorgeous mature south facing garden. We’ve got some 20mm frame sliding doors and bifold window incoming to frame the views 👀

There’s also some interiors by to which I’m super excited to see.

Once we get over the drainage issues (public sewer) and out of the ground we’ll keep posting as it’s set to be a stunning transformation.

Briefing meeting and snowdrop spotting yesterday at this end of terrace extension and retrofit project in Hanham, Bristol. Although modest in size the house is set in its own little wooded glen next to a stream, and feels secluded and almost rural.

We will be designing a rear kitchen extension, built of carbon sequestering materials (🌳) and reaching for Passive House levels of insulation and detailing at junctions. The ground floor will be insulated with underfloor heating installed so it is heat pump ready, and external wall insulation will be added finished in a rough cast lime render to blend in with the existing pebble dash. Also to be installed will be new windows and doors, and mechanical ventilation (hopefully with heat recovery).

This one will be small but perfectly formed and super gentle on its occupants and environment. We’re looking forward to working with the woodland outlook in the design of the extension. It’s quite special!

What do you do when you really want a breakfast bar, but your kitchen is too small?

Think outside the box.

We ran a ply bar across in front of the Juliette balcony of this Larkhall new build townhouse. It’s removable, so can be dismantled to clean the glass, and reeded glass film obscures the view both ways.

Quirky ways to problem solve are key to adding character to developer new builds!

Bungalow reno in Tunley, south west of Bath. Here’s the drawings of the finished project. It’s going to be built in three phases - reno, then extension, then loft. We’ve worked with the structural engineer to future proof all the internal structure (which is as much timber as possible!), so the later phases don’t scupper things.
