🌱 Planting Seeds for the Future at Fortismere School! 🌷

On Friday, we were delighted to join students at Fortismere School in Haringey for a hands-on planting session as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering meaningful social value within the communities we work in.

Together, we got our hands dirty planting potatoes, onions, garlic and tulip bulbs, helping students connect with nature, develop new skills and take pride in their outdoor spaces. 🥔🌷

The activity marked a fantastic opportunity to build on the recently completed improvement works at the school, which have included new artificial turf, landscaping and sleeper installations, the Longley Sensory Garden and Longley Farm vegetable patch, alongside extensive internal SEND improvements designed to create more accessible, comfortable and supportive learning environments.

While the physical improvements have transformed these spaces, it's opportunities like Friday's planting session that really bring them to life.

💚 For us, social value is about more than delivering a project – it's about creating lasting, positive impacts for the people who use the spaces long after the works are complete.

🏗️ PROJECT COMPLETE | Greatness Pavilion, Sevenoaks

We’re proud to have completed and handed over the new £2.1 million Community Sports Pavilion at Greatness Recreation Ground, delivered by Longley as Main Contractor for Sevenoaks Town Council and Sevenoaks Town FC.

The new pavilion represents a major investment in grassroots sport and the wider Sevenoaks community, creating a modern, inclusive and welcoming facility for players, supporters and local residents.

⚽ The new facilities include:
• Modern changing rooms
• Community gym
• Café and vibrant refreshment areas
• Fully equipped kitchen
• Improved landscaping and external facilities
• Sustainable features including solar panels, an air source heat pump, living green wall and green roof elements

The pavilion was officially opened on Friday 18th September, marking an exciting new chapter for Sevenoaks Town FC and the local community. It was fantastic to see the new facility brought to life, with the local community coming together to celebrate the occasion alongside Mayoress Victoria Granville.

We’re incredibly proud to have led the construction of a facility that will make a lasting difference and provide a fantastic space for the community to enjoy for many years to come.

A Closer Look | Chapter Westminster ✨

Historic character meets contemporary student living.

Following the successful completion and handover of our refurbishment project for Greystar at Chapter Westminster, we're excited to share a closer look at the finished spaces.

Set within three historic railway arches, the newly transformed interiors bring together thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship and modern functionality to create an inviting environment for students to study, socialise and unwind.

From the welcoming reception and dedicated study areas to the games lounge and cinema space, every detail has been carefully considered to make the most of this unique setting.

A fantastic example of how existing spaces can be reimagined to create something truly special.

Project Complete | Chapter Westminster for Greystar 🎉

We’re delighted to have officially handed back the three refurbished railway arches at Greystar’s Chapter Westminster student accommodation this Wednesday.

From historic railway arches to vibrant student living.

These reimagined spaces have been transformed into a welcoming new hub, complete with a reception area, kitchenette, dedicated study zones, and a games lounge that doubles as a cinema.

The project involved an extensive programme of works, from structural alterations, steelwork, specialist timber panelling and a specialist floating floor through to glazing, full internal fit-out, M&E, joinery, finishes, AV, IT and FF&E.

The result? Functional, fun and future-ready student spaces that make fantastic use of the character of these historic railway arches.

And the feedback at handover made it even better. Emma Watson of Greystar said:

“It could not have gone better; everyone was so impressed!”

🏗️ Project Update | South Essex College

Things are progressing well on site at South Essex College, where we are replacing the Air Handling Units serving the entire building.

Last week marked an important milestone for the project, with the first crane lift getting underway to support the removal of the existing AHUs and the delivery of new plant equipment to the roof. 🏗️🔧

Ahead of the lift, our traffic management team carefully established the lifting zone to ensure students, staff, pedestrians and vehicles could continue to move safely around the live college environment.

The works began with the removal of steelwork to enable the first phase of dismantling the existing AHU, followed by clearing waste from the roof and lifting the new plant into position ready for installation.

With the new equipment now on the roof, the team is progressing with alterations to the gantry steelwork and beginning installation of the new plant, with further crane lifts planned as we move into the next stage of the programme.

🚧 Project Update – Archive & Museum Store Progress 🏗️

Work continues to progress well on our purpose-built Archive & Museum Store project, with some key milestones already achieved. 👏

✅ Foundations are now 100% complete, marking an important step forward in the construction programme.

Over the coming weeks, our team will be focusing on:
🔹 Completing the site oversite works
🔹 Commencing drainage installations for the new building
🔹 Installing the structural steel frame
🔹 Progressing the standing seam roof
🔹 Constructing service trenches for statutory water and electrical supplies

Building Control continues to visit the site regularly to ensure works are progressing to the highest standards, and dedicated pedestrian access and egress routes have been successfully established to maintain safe access around the site. 🚶‍♂️

As part of our commitment to the local community, we're also working closely with our local authority client to keep residents informed throughout the build by producing and distributing a monthly project newsletter. Keeping our neighbours updated is an important part of delivering the project responsibly. 🤝

We're excited to see this specialist facility continue to take shape and look forward to sharing more progress over the coming months as we help create a secure home for important museum, art and archive collections for generations to come.

🌉 Inspiring the next generation of women in the built environment! 👷‍♀️🏗️

On Friday, Rebecca Green, our Marketing & Social Values Coordinator, and Sam Simpson, our Senior Contracts Manager, volunteered at Langley Park School for Girls for their Women in the Built Environment Day.

Throughout the day, Year 8 students took on two exciting challenges designed to introduce them to the diverse careers and skills involved in the construction industry.

The first challenge saw teams design and build a 1-metre prototype bridge using everyday materials, while carefully managing costs, budgeting for materials and ensuring their bridge was strong enough to support the ultimate test – a tin of beans! 🌉🥫

For the second challenge, students became property developers, selecting one of four fictional sites on the island of Lang Land. They had to balance budgets, sustainability, environmental constraints and commercial viability before developing a proposal and presenting their marketing pitch to a panel of judges.

The students demonstrated fantastic creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and presentation skills throughout the day. While profit was considered, the winning teams were recognised for much more – including collaboration, innovation, sustainability and how effectively they communicated their ideas.

It was a privilege to support such an inspiring initiative and engage with young people eager to learn more about the opportunities available within the construction and built environment sector. Events like these play an important role in breaking down barriers and encouraging more young women to consider careers in our industry.

A huge thank you to Langley Park School for Girls for inviting us to be part of such a rewarding day. We hope to have inspired some future engineers, surveyors, project managers and construction professionals!

👟 July is Step Challenge Month at Longley!

Today marks the start of our very first company-wide Step Challenge, encouraging our team to move more, stay active and enjoy a little friendly competition along the way.

Throughout July, colleagues across the business will be tracking their daily steps, climbing our live leaderboard and competing to see who finishes the month on top.

Whether it's walking to meetings, taking the stairs, getting out at lunchtime or choosing to leave the car behind, every step counts.

This wellbeing initiative is being led by Gillian Hatherall from Wellness That Works, whose expertise and ongoing support are helping our team build healthier habits both in and out of the workplace. We're looking forward to sharing our progress throughout the month.

Following on from our recent hydration campaign, we'll also be introducing nutrition content next week to help keep everyone fuelled as the challenge continues.

A big thank you to Gillian for supporting the team, and good luck to everyone taking part—we can't wait to see who tops the leaderboard at the end of July! 👏👟

🏗️ Project Progress Update | London Theatre RAAC Roof Replacement 🎭

Significant progress continues on site as works advance on this important theatre refurbishment project.

Key milestones achieved include:

✅ Tin roof installation now complete

✅ Suspended ceiling removal works completed, enabling the er****on of the Phase 2 birdcage scaffold

✅ The affected area has been fully cleaned and cleared, with all waste materials removed from site

✅ External asbestos removal works to the east roof elevation completed

Current works in progress include:

🔹 Phase 2 birdcage scaffold er****on, providing safe access to the RAAC roof level for uplift and replacement works

🔹 Continued RAAC wall removal to the east roof elevation

🔹 Ongoing preparation works to support the next stages of the programme

The project continues to progress safely and efficiently, with each milestone bringing us closer to securing the long-term future of this valued community venue.

We look forward to sharing further updates as work continues.
