This is also known as International Electrician Day is celebrated annually on June 10. The date marks the anniversary of the death of the pioneering French physicist and mathematician André-Marie Ampère, who died in 1836. The commemoration was first established exactly 150 years later, in 1986.

The celebration was established in 1986 by French and Polish electrical professionals to honour André-Marie Ampère. Ampère is celebrated as one of the founding fathers of electromagnetism. In recognition of his massive contributions to science and electrical theory, the international SI unit of electric current (the "amp") is named after him.
