πΏ | GBF β Community Project Announcement.
We are proud to announce that, as part of our Goals Beyond Football programme, we have been entrusted with a new community project by Northumberland County Council to help enhance an already beautiful part of Tweedmouth.
Over the past few years, the island opposite the Tweedmouth War Memorial has been used as a working compound during the restoration works on the Old Bridge. As a result, the area has naturally suffered some wear and tear and is now in need of some care and attention.
Our task is to help restore this space and bring it back to its former glory for the benefit of the whole community.
The island is also home to the historic Jubilee Lamp, which has stood proudly in Tweedmouth since the late 1800s. Over the years it has served as a focal point and meeting place for local people, from fun runs to the famous Waltzers and Treacle Bun along with funfairs and exciting events, and remains an important part of the area's heritage.
Recently, we met with County Cllr Georgina Hill and Mayor Jane Turton, alongside NCC Senior Officer Thomas Crate, to discuss the exciting plans ahead and explore what can be achieved through this project.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our young people to make a lasting difference in their community, develop new skills, and take pride in improving a space that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
We can't wait to get started and embrace this responsibility on behalf of the community. Watch this space for updates as we begin the journey of bringing this important area back to life.
