Meet India - Office Manager

India keeps everything running smoothly - from planning and scheduling jobs, to handling enquiries and making sure customers and contractors are kept in the loop.

She’s confident in both written and verbal communication, and plays a key role in keeping the day-to-day operations structured, efficient, and moving in the right direction.

She also has one very important job… guarding her colour-coded diary. Touch it without permission and you’ll know about it 😬

When did you start working with us?
I started working for MDL in January 2026.

What do you enjoy most about your job and why?
The part I enjoy the most is speaking to clients, Property Management companies and Letting Agents - negotiations and relationship building were a significant part of my previous job and I’m guilty of enjoying a good old chinwag!

What’s your area of expertise or favourite type of job and why?
I am the first port of call for our customers, either through Facebook/website enquiries, emails or telephone calls. My area of expertise is communication and organisation so a large part of my role involves planning works, scheduling the diary, liaising with employees, customers & agents and compiling works orders.

How did you/what led you to get into this line of work?
I am Matthew’s wife so I have lived and breathed MDL Property Maintenance since the business started. I wanted to start being more involved in the business when I left my old job, and when MDL started to grow, because it meant Matthew could spend more time being “on the tools” and I could pick up the admin side of things. With my Dad already playing a big role in the company, it made sense to expand on our family business and join in too.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends - ideally outside when the weather is good - and it usually involves me cooking and hosting which are two of my favourite things! I also enjoy going to the gym and it’s rare that you’ll find me without a book or my Kindle!

What’s your favourite food or takeaway?
That’s tricky because I am a massive foodie… If I had to choose, I would probably say a Sunday Roast. I'm also a sucker for an ice cream!

What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Europe, especially the Mediterranean. I love Europe; the weather, the history, the culture (and the wine!).

What’s a fun or interesting fact you can give us?
My interesting fact is, when I was younger, I loved performing. I went to university and gained a BA Hons Degree in Drama & Performance.

Meet Mikey - Maintenance Contractor

Mikey is one of our trusted contractors; a key part of the team on site, relied upon across a wide range of jobs and known for his practical, get-it-done approach.

No two days look the same - from gutter cleans to sorting toilet flushing mechanisms - he’s always willing to turn his hand to whatever’s needed and makes sure it’s done properly.

(He also finds collecting keys for jobs a bit of a challenge… there always seems to be a reason they’re not there when he goes to collect them 🤭)

When did you start working with us?
I started in August 2025.

What do you enjoy most about your job and why?
The variety of work. No two days are the same which keeps the job interesting.

What’s your area of expertise or favourite type of job and why?
My area of expertise… Bringing the good vibes. Bringing in cake. And window sealants.

How did you/what led you to get into this line of work?
I’ve wanted to get back into the trade for a long time. I used to work for a bathroom fitting company and going into property maintenance seemed like the best opportunity for me to learn multiple skills.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Spending time with family or on the golf course.

What’s your favourite food or takeaway?
Italian food. 100%.

What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Either Florence or Barcelona.

What’s a fun or interesting fact you can give us?
I’ve also got two… I used to run the largest UK Skepta fan club on Facebook (I say largest but think I might have been the only one) and I used to co-own a bakery.

Meet Mark - Maintenance Supervisor

Mark makes sure jobs are completed in the correct order and to a high standard on site. He’s meticulous in his approach and takes pride in ensuring everything is finished properly and looks spot on before a job is signed off.

He also plays a key role in training and supporting newer members of the team, and is often relied upon on site when Matthew isn’t around.

(And if you hear a random quote from “The Office” mid-job… that’ll be him 😄)

When did you start working with us?
I started in July 2024 when I moved from Slovakia back to the UK.

What do you enjoy most about your job and why?
Improving properties and giving those who live in the property nicer living conditions.

What’s your area of expertise or favourite type of job and why?
My area of expertise is refurbishments - that’s where I have the most experience - I have refurbished lots of my own properties and have also built two of my own properties from scratch.

How did you/what led you to get into this line of work?
Matthew is my Son In Law so I was easily persuaded!

What do you like to do outside of work?
Having family time. I enjoy cooking too - especially Indian food - and actually had one of my recipes published in a book!

What’s your favourite food or takeaway?
Chinese, Indian & Kebab equally. With a decent burger right up there. Oh, and fish and chips...

What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Alvor in Portugal - amazing place!

What’s a fun or interesting fact you can give us?
I’ve got two. First is that I used to Bobsleigh for Great Britain. The second is I was once mistaken for Will Carling (the old England Rugby Captain) but the smell of alcohol on the guy's breath was overwhelming…

Meet Matthew - Director of MDL

Matthew founded MDL with a clear focus on building a reliable, professional team that delivers high-quality work customers can trust.

He has extensive knowledge across a wide range of jobs, taking a thorough approach to identifying issues, selecting the right products, and finding the most effective solutions to achieve the best results.

He is committed to ensuring every customer is fully satisfied, communicating clearly throughout each project and explaining the approach behind the work being carried out.

This focus on transparency, service, and doing things properly runs through the whole business.

When did you set up the business?
The business first started in 2018. I have always been very “hands on” and my Dad taught me a lot about DIY so, alongside my day job as a Senior Team Leader in insurance, I would regularly work at weekends doing bits and bobs for friends and family and had done since I was around 21 years old. Around 8 months after mine and India’s son was born, I became really unhappy with my career and place of work and knew I didn’t want to keep working in an office - I just wasn’t passionate about it - but I was very passionate about decorating, fixing problems, adjusting things and finding solutions. I quit my job to set up, what was known then as “MDL Painting & Decorating”, which was risky - given we had a very young family - but I am so pleased I took that leap! Whilst painting and decorating started out as our “bread and butter” we quickly had questions from customers like “why is a painting and decorating company doing my fences/flooring/bathroom?” so MDL Painting & Decorating was renamed MDL Property Maintenance around 12 months later. We’ve gone from being a sole trader relying on work through Facebook and word of mouth in Bournemouth to a family-run business with three employees, three vans on the road, working across Dorset (and even as far as Richmond, Droitwich & the Isle of Wight!) and a portfolio of landlords, letting agents, Property Management companies and private clients whose properties we maintain.

What do you enjoy most about your job and why?
Seeing the business grow (from what started as me in a second-hand Citroen Berlingo doing my rounds!) to what it is now is incredibly fulfilling. We are a true family-run business and I am extremely proud of what we have created.

What’s your area of expertise or favourite type of job and why?
My favourite type of job and area of expertise would be training Mark & Mikey. Passing on my knowledge and skills to them and then seeing them gain the confidence to be able to do works themselves is really rewarding.

What do you like to do outside of work?
The same as most, I bet… spending time with family and friends. I love Formula One so, during the season, you will likely find me in front of the TV hoping for Hamilton to take pole position or I’ll be at one of the races. I enjoy golf (and try to play as regularly as the business allows!) and enjoy going abroad to play golf too - I’m definitely a fair-weather golfer!

What’s your favourite food or takeaway?
Burger. Always.

What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Dubai. I have been to watch the F1 there twice and loved it there.

What’s a fun or interesting fact you can give us?
I raced a Nissan GTR around Silverstone racecourse.

That’s a wrap from the three hard-working members of MDL Property Maintenance!
We’re officially putting down the tools, stepping away from the ladders and swapping dust for mince pies!

A huge thank you to all our lovely customers for keeping us busy this year - we couldn’t do it without you (or your wonky doors, fallen fencing and dripping taps!).

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a peaceful break, and homes that behave themselves until we’re back!

This bathroom started with an old bath and a long-standing leak that had gone unnoticed for some time.
Before any cosmetic work began, we stripped everything back, repaired the leak, and fully addressed the excess moisture within the joists.

To make sure the job was done properly (not just quickly!) we introduced dehumidification; extending the project timeline to ensure the structure was completely dry and sound. We also replaced the sub-base floor where deterioration had occurred - a step that’s often overlooked - but one that makes all the difference to the longevity of the finished space.

Once the fundamentals were right, we transformed the space into a modern walk-in shower room, finished with:

• Emerald green metro tiles for a bold, contemporary look

• Gold hardware and fixtures for a high-end finish

• A clean, open layout that maximises both light and space

We’re really proud of this one — not just for how it looks, but for how it was done. Quality first, every time.

💪This one was a real challenge but what a result!

This studio flat had been affected by damp and mould and needed a complete overhaul. We stripped it back and started fresh: new sub-base floor, bonding & reskimming walls, mist coating, ripping out the old kitchen and fitting a new one, installing an FD30 fire door, carpets, vinyl, skirting, plus optimising the plumbing and electrics. Finally, we redecorated throughout in crisp white super-matt to give it a fresh, modern finish.

It took a lot of time and effort, but seeing the space completely transformed makes it all worthwhile.

✨Bathroom transformations like this are why we love what we do!✨

What started as a dark, tired space is now a bright, practical, and modern family bathroom. To get here, we took it back to the bare bones — reworking plumbing and waste, moving the loft hatch, replastering, installing fresh, new tiles and finally installing a sleek new suite.

It wasn’t a straightforward project, but the result speaks for itself, and we couldn’t be prouder!
