Back in January a guy ordered one of my free prints and we got chatting on Instagram.
Turns out he was one member of a mysterious trio of whisky lovers based in Wales.
He asked if I’d like to design a label for a small batch of whisky bottles.
I’ve wanted to design a beer can for ages and thought whisky was close enough. He did ask very nicely.
Plus it’s made in Wales, which has been my home for the last 18 months.
The brief was 90s raves. So I got to work, painted some ravers, and thought about what a raver might be saying.
I wanted it to say Off My T**s, but we settled on Mad Fer It. A nod to the Madchester/Hacienda era.
Eight months later and the bottles are here.
As of 7am this morning there are 20 bottles of Welsh whisky featuring Merny artwork available from the Malt Mates store.
Each comes with a signed and numbered postcard. The original painting is also available, and it’s currently the only original of mine for sale online anywhere.
If you just want the postcard without committing to a bottle of whisky, there are unsigned postcards available for £2.50. Limited to 400 copies.

Plot twist. I don’t really like whisky, and I haven’t had any alcohol since January. But i imagine its absolutely delicious.
