Here is a glimpse of our ‘Red House’, now nearing completion in South East London.

Our daring clients embraced an oxide-red timber cladding, creating a striking contrast against the soft, neutral brickwork. What was once a modest 1970s house has been completely transformed into a bold and contemporary family home.

Interiors by architects aren’t always stark white walls and concrete.

There’s a common misconception that architects design the shell of a building while interior designers are responsible for everything inside. At Matthew Giles Architects, we’ve always taken a holistic approach to our projects - from the selection of bricks and external materials to the finish of a door handle and the rug in a bedroom.

For us, interiors are just as important as the architecture itself. We’re passionate about materials, textiles, colour, lighting, and detailing, and we enjoy working with everything from the latest trends to timeless, classic finishes. Each project is approached individually, with every decision made in response to the specific client and the character of the home.
Most importantly, no two projects are the same because no two clients are the same. A home’s interior should reflect the personalities of the people who live there and support the way they use their spaces every day.

Site update | Sintra, Portugal

With the structural frame now complete and block infill walls underway, the architecture is beginning to emerge from the landscape.

Designed as a series of interconnected volumes nestled amongst the pines, the home’s form is now becoming clearly legible on site.

The central courtyard, conceived as the heart of the house, is beginning to take shape and reveal the relationship between the different living spaces.

As construction progresses, carefully framed views towards Sintra and the connection between the architecture, gardens and surrounding landscape are becoming increasingly apparent.

More updates to follow as the project continues to develop.

Petersham progress.

A site update from our new build family home in Richmond, a project rooted in sustainability and shaped by heritage. Drawing subtle inspiration from Danish architecture and our clients’ family background, the design balances warmth, simplicity and connection to place.

Alongside the architectural language, the home incorporates a series of renewable systems including solar panels, MVHR and rainwater harvesting to create a lower impact, future focused home.

The project is continuing to take shape and is due to complete in July. Keep an eye out for more updates.
