🏗️ HAVE SCAFFOLDING TICKETS ACTUALLY HURT THE INDUSTRY?

Part 1. Part 2. Advanced.

I know this will divide opinion, but I genuinely believe the ticket system has created a problem in scaffolding.

Years ago, a man could turn up without a stack of tickets. You watched him work. Was he safe? Could he actually scaffold? Did he graft? Could you trust him? If the answer was yes, you kept him.

Now sites understandably require the correct qualifications — but has that created an industry where having the ticket can sometimes become more important than actually being good at the job?

A bloke doesn’t work out at one firm, he moves to the next, then the next… because firms need ticketed scaffolders.

A ticket proves you’ve completed the required training and assessment. It doesn’t automatically make you a good scaffolder.

Monday 24th — only a few more days until we finally meet the team!

Another 2 youngsters joined yesterday, taking us up to 15 young people aged 13–16 ready to be part of the ATC Youth Scaffolding Programme.

What started as an idea is very quickly becoming a reality. ❤️

A massive thank you to Bradley Nolan at Nolan’s Transport and Josh Oakes at J. Oakes & Son Skip & Grab Hire for your continued support throughout this project. People giving their time, equipment and materials is what’s helped us get this off the ground.

🌧️ THIS IS EXACTLY WHY WE’RE DOING IT THIS WAY.

Typical English weather today… absolutely pi***ng down. 😂

And this is exactly why DAY ONE of our youth programme is going to involve building a temporary roof. 🏗️

Throw them in at the deep end, get them thinking, working together and learning something REAL from the start.

But here’s the important part — that temporary roof then stays up, giving the youngsters a covered training area underneath where we can continue building, dismantling and learning different scaffolds throughout the rest of the year, whatever the weather throws at us.

No box-ticking exercises. Real scaffolding. Real problems. Real solutions. Real life skills. 👊

Just over a week until we meet the youngsters joining the ATC Youth Scaffolding Programme.

13–16 year olds getting the opportunity to learn real practical skills, real life skills and real scaffolding — completely FREE.

The yard is nearly ready. The team is ready.

Now we can’t wait to meet the youngsters and get this programme underway. ❤️🏗️

NO, YOU NEVER. 👊

This is NOT your ordinary box-ticking scaffold college, doing impractical exercises just to say you’ve completed them.

This youth programme is about REAL scaffolding. REAL practical experience. REAL LIFE SKILLS. 🏗️

These youngsters are going to learn how things are actually done — working with their hands, solving problems, working as a team, learning discipline, responsibility and understanding what a proper day’s work looks like.

We’re not interested in ticking boxes.

We’re interested in giving 13–16 year olds practical skills, confidence, direction and something positive they can take into real life.

Some will hopefully become scaffolders. Some might go into another trade. Some might choose a completely different path.

But if they leave us with a stronger work ethic, more confidence and a better direction than when they arrived, we’ve done our job. ❤️

Sun’s shining, the academy is nearly up and running and things are moving in the right direction. 👊🏗️

Just passing a bit of good energy on this Friday morning — hopefully everyone out there is getting it in and having a good week too.

Work hard, keep pushing and enjoy the wins when they come.

Although don’t enjoy them too much… the government will probably take half of it off you anyway. 😂😂
