This home in Faro, Portugal is called 'Casa da Vida', the house of life.

Caught at dusk, the home settles into its garden in long horizontal planes of concrete, warm light spilling from within as the plunge pool celebrates the last of the day.

What's in a name: Here it is a sanctuary, where nature is woven and permeates through the architecture's framing and dynamic form.

Casa da Vida is an expression of the client's spirit and purpose: a personal journey made explicit. A home that invites joy and embraces the fullness of life.

Early summer dawn at Nexus House.

The home sits on the left, reaching towards the distant horizon, with the secret garden still open from the night before. This garden holds the central library at its heart. To the right, the AI research laboratories and workspaces are arranged around a cloistered courtyard, a monastic place for deep thinking.

The main home is set on an inhabited plinth and cantilevers out into the landscape, looking towards the ridgeway.

This is a home for a polymath, maker and maverick.

A little more of Casa da Vida in Faro.

The first image looks across the pool and the cascading steps to a sunken living pit. Outside, a concrete canopy keeps the home cool, with externally mounted voiles that screen and disarm the interior, breaking down the porosity of the architecture.

Within, the sunken living area is set against a bespoke shelving unit that holds artefacts from a life of travel. The penthouse stays hidden on the upper deck, set back in its own private world of ocean views.

The second image looks into the sunken living space as it opens towards the pool. Beyond, you can see the entry and the open-plan kitchen.

This is a home that unfolds.

A small house for a musician, assembled from Corten, gabions, river and fire. The plan is ordered by the golden section, giving the home a harmonic structure.

"Architecture is frozen music."

Form and musician are brought into alignment. The plinth gives the home a distinguished presence in the landscape, while the overhanging crown creates shade, shelter, and a continuous liminal threshold between interior and exterior life. A triangular hearth gathers the room, sets the heart and sends firelight into the night.

More shots of Casa da Vida in Faro.

A home happy in sunlight and shade. The first image shows the upper ground floor living plinth, where the main pool begins its descent through a series of water terraces. These terraces are integrated within the geometry of the house and offered as secret spaces to inhabit.

The architecture draws you down, deeper into an inner sanctum of rest and renewal beneath the home. Long linear datums hold the composition together, stretching space and time while creating a dialogue with the landscape.

The second image shows the shaded part of the home. A cooler place for living in shade and solitude.
