The living room sits below the garden, shaded by a deep concrete overhang that keeps the interior spaces cool. Timber shelving runs the length of one wall, carrying books, ceramics and objects gathered from life.

Nexus House in Oxfordshire, the central library is a place for 10,000 books, with the capacity to extend to 30,000. A stereotomic base of rammed concrete provides the foundation for a timber structure. It opens its tome like form to the cosmos.

Sneak peek.

A New woodland home for a family in Mid Sussex, north of Brighton.

At the centre of the woodland stands an ancient oak. We discovered this tree was already growing when the American Constitution was being written and it will still be there after we are all long gone. So how should architecture converse when confronted with deep time?

Our latest journal explores this thread and reveals what we found.

Black Swan House, low and dark against the water.

1. A pavilion set on a plinth, glazed end to end so light passes straight through.
2. Seen across the water, a timber screen draws the house down to a single element, a small boat resting at the bank.
3. On the ridge it settles into wild grasses.

In black and white, only the essentials remain.

This home in Faro, Portugal is called 'Casa da Vida', the house of life.

Caught at dusk, the home settles into its garden in long horizontal planes of concrete, warm light spilling from within as the plunge pool celebrates the last of the day.

What's in a name: Here it is a sanctuary, where nature is woven and permeates through the architecture's framing and dynamic form.

Casa da Vida is an expression of the client's spirit and purpose: a personal journey made explicit. A home that invites joy and embraces the fullness of life.

Early summer dawn at Nexus House.

The home sits on the left, reaching towards the distant horizon, with the secret garden still open from the night before. This garden holds the central library at its heart. To the right, the AI research laboratories and workspaces are arranged around a cloistered courtyard, a monastic place for deep thinking.

The main home is set on an inhabited plinth and cantilevers out into the landscape, looking towards the ridgeway.

This is a home for a polymath, maker and maverick.

A little more of Casa da Vida in Faro.

The first image looks across the pool and the cascading steps to a sunken living pit. Outside, a concrete canopy keeps the home cool, with externally mounted voiles that screen and disarm the interior, breaking down the porosity of the architecture.

Within, the sunken living area is set against a bespoke shelving unit that holds artefacts from a life of travel. The penthouse stays hidden on the upper deck, set back in its own private world of ocean views.

The second image looks into the sunken living space as it opens towards the pool. Beyond, you can see the entry and the open-plan kitchen.

This is a home that unfolds.
