The Good Food Cardiff Autumn Festival will return to the city in September and we are offering grants to community groups to help them get involved.

Every year since 2021, the Good Food Cardiff Autumn Festival has been celebrating the joy of growing, cooking and sharing good food.

Throughout the month, free activities are held in neighbourhoods across the city starting with a dedicated Good Food Cardiff Zone to welcome the 25,000 visitors attending the Sain Ffagan: Amgueddfa Werin Cymru - St Fagans National Museum of History Food Festival.

Food Cardiff is offering small grants of up to £200 to enable not-for-profit groups to host events or activities as part of the festival.

Anyone can apply as long as their event promotes Food Cardiff’s 5 Good Food Goals which support the city’s bid to become one of the UK’s most sustainable food cities.

Ddiwedd mis Mai, fe gawsom y pleser o gynnal trafodaeth banel yng ngŵyl fwyd ddiweddaraf Caerdydd, Feast On Caerdydd ym Mharc Bute.
Daeth y digwydd â Lucinda Sehic (Bwyd Caerdydd), Jenny Ashton (Pantri Tremorfa), Katie Padfield (FareShare Cymru) a Poppy Nicol (Global Gardens) ynghyd i drafod sut mae partneriaethau bwyd lleol yn helpu mwy o bobl i gael mynediad at fwyd da, cefnogi cynhyrchwyr lleol, gwella gwybodaeth am fwyd a gwthio tuag at system fwyd iachach a mwy cynaliadwy.

Dyma ar waith!

At the end of last month, we were delighted to host a panel talk at Cardiff’s latest food festival, in Bute Park.

The discussion brought together Lucinda Sehic (), Katie Padfield () and Poppy Nicol () and Jenny Ashton () to explore how local food partnerships are helping more people access good food, support local producers, improve food knowledge and push for a healthier, more sustainable food system.

This is in action! ✨

Against a backdrop of rising costs and greater food insecurity, a co-operative group established in Splott has created a sustainable model to help people access healthy, affordable food.

Ar gefndir o gostau cynyddol a phobl yn profi mwy o ddiffyg diogeledd bwyd, mae un grŵp cydweithredol, a sefydlwyd yn y Sblot, wedi creu model cynaliadwy i helpu pobl i gael mynediad at fwyd iach, fforddiadwy.

“Solidarity, not charity” 🤝

Against a backdrop of rising costs and greater food insecurity, a co-operative group established in Splott has created a sustainable model to help people access healthy, affordable food.

offers its 90 members weekly veg and fruit bags, along with loose items such as pasta, rice and coffee, all paid for on a sliding scale to make it affordable to all. Food is sourced from local wholesalers, with supplies bought in bulk to keep costs low.

While many community projects rely on constant fundraising and grant applications, Splo-down covers its operating costs through membership fees, which start at £3 per year, and income from produce sales. The system is not-for-profit and balances financially, with any surplus reinvested into the project.

Ar gefndir o gostau cynyddol a phobl yn profi mwy o ddiffyg diogeledd bwyd, mae un grŵp cydweithredol, a sefydlwyd yn y Sblot, wedi creu model cynaliadwy i helpu pobl i gael mynediad at fwyd iach, fforddiadwy.

Mae Splo-Down yn cynnig bagiau llysiau a ffrwythau wythnosol i’w 90 aelod, ynghyd ag eitemau rhydd fel pasta, reis a choffi, y talwyd am y cyfan ar raddfa symudol i’w gwneud yn fforddiadwy i bawb. Mae bwyd yn dod o gyfanwerthwyr lleol, gyda chyflenwadau yn cael eu prynu mewn swmp i gadw costau’n isel.

Er bod llawer o brosiectau cymunedol yn dibynnu ar ymgyrchoedd codi a***n a cheisiadau grantiau cyson, mae Splo-Down yn gallu talu ei chostau gweithredu trwy ei ffioedd aelodaeth, sy’n dechrau ar £3 y flwyddyn, a’r incwm o werthiant ei chynnyrch. Mae’r system yn un nid-er-elw ac yn cydbwyso’n a***nnol, gydag unrhyw warged yn cael ei ail-fuddsoddi yn y prosiect.

The UK just recorded its all-time highest May temperature, while food prices are now the main worry for most Britons. We need new ways to shop that connect climate-friendly growers with shoppers and keep money in communities, says latest Sustain report.
