Rhydypenau Allotment Community Plot, is open to the public for free every Saturday morning from April - September. A Keep Wales Tidy Food Development Package!

Made by the community for the community, promoting access to nature, community & food growing.

Come & join us on the community plot this Saturday morning! Zoe and Emma will be on hand to offer you a cuppa and suggest some allotmenting activities you can get involved in if wanted.

⚠️This will be our last scheduled session of the year, although if the weather continues to be nice we will try to offer ad hoc autumn sessions 🍁🍂

🌞 Everyone welcome, no skills or equipment needed.

Come & join us on the community plot this Saturday afternoon for the annual show!

A few reminders:

⚠️ We won't be open in the morning, but the allotment site will be open to all from 12pm-5pm approx.

⚠️ Cars aren't permitted on site between 12pm and 6pm for health and safety reasons, please park in Christ Church Car Park or on Heath Halt Rd

⚠️ We can't take card payments so please make sure to bring cash and pocket money with you!

The annual RAA show will open at 12pm with plenty of fun activities 🎨

There'll be lots of games, autumn wreath crafts, kids lucky dip, a raffle, quiz, allotment site tours, as well as cakes, preserves and jams for sale!

🌭 There'll also be a BBQ from 1.30pm with hot dogs and burgers as well as vegetarian options

It's also an opportunity to see the best of the produce grown on site this year!

🎃 The children's and largest pumpkin competitions will be displayed on the community plot for viewing from 12pm onwards, with other classes displayed in the Christ Church hall.

🥕 At the community plot, we'll be entering our carrots into the wonky veg category and hoping for a prize 🏅

Ruth and Pauline will be there to welcome you and suggest some activities you can get involved in if wanted.

A fun day at the plot on Saturday despite the rain!

Thanks to everyone came along!

We:

🌱 Planted leeks
🍓 Picked and ate some more raspberries
🍅 Picked some tomatoes
☘️ Did some weeding
🐛 Learned about caterpillars
🍪 Enjoyed cuppas, biscuits and chats

This Saturday we'll be getting ready for the Allotment Show on 12th September! Come along for help creating and preparing your entries 😊 We'll have Zoe on hand to ensure there's tea and coffee as well as ideas of allotmenting tasks to do! 🏵

A wonderful sunny day at the plot on Saturday!

Thanks to everyone came along!

We:

🍇 Picked lots more blackberries (and of course ate them as we went!)
☘️ Weeded the beds and mowed the grass
🏵 Tidied our nasturtiums, and potted up the runaway seedlings so hopefully we'll continue to get flowers until the autumn!
🍓 Tidied our strawberry bed and potted up the runners too, so we'll have even more strawberries next year!
🍓 Found that our next crop of our golden raspberries were ready and ate a few, there should be more coming next week
🥕 Pulled our first (rather wonky) carrots!
💧Watered everything
🍪 Enjoyed cuppas, biscuits and chats

This Saturday we'll be celebrating National Allotments week, and we'll have Tim and Ruth on hand to ensure there's tea and coffee as well as ideas of allotmenting tasks to do! 🏵

Learning the best way to pull carrots!

Strimming the wildflower patch. We'll be leaving the cuttings down for a week or two to make sure any last seeds are dropped and then we'll rake it.

A great day at the plot on Saturday!

Thanks to everyone came along!

We're slowing down a little in the heat and focusing our efforts on maintaining the plot.

Unfortunately, some of the vegetables that we would be growing at this time of year like lettuce won't germinate at higher temperatures.

One of our projects, started by Emma, is a little herb garden. The Dutch Garden Centre kindly donated one of their plant stands for this - many thanks to them for their support! Hopefully next year we'll have pots of fragrant herbs to pick!

Over the past two weeks we've:

✂️ Cut back the hedging by the gate and alongside the polytunnel
🌿 Weeded the beds and paths
🪻Sowed Lacy Phacelia as ground cover where our crops have gone over - this will be great for our pollinator friends
🥬 Set up a herb plant stand (kindly donated by the Dutch Garden Centre - many thanks!)
☕️ Had teas, coffees and gardening chats

This Saturday the weather is looking cooler and we'll have Zoe on hand to ensure there's tea and coffee as well as ideas of allotmenting tasks to do! 🏵

A great day at the plot on Saturday!

🍇 Picked lots of blackberries
🧅 Harvested some of our onions and potatoes!
☘️ Weeded the beds
🚪 Cleared some overgrowth around the gate
🍅 Planted out some more tomatoes and carrots
🧑‍🎨 Did some drawing and played a matching card game!
💧Watered everything
🪱 Found some worm friends
🍪 Enjoyed cuppas, biscuits and chats
