St Mary’s Islington presented a real challenge for mounting modern light fittings—can you spot the spotlight in the window?

Recessed ceiling boxes and bespoke window-mounted poles discreetly house the spotlights and cabling, all programmed for bright or subdued scenes at the touch of a button.

We love finding creative solutions that protect historic fabric while delivering a great lighting outcome.

We’re pleased to share the completion of the new lighting scheme at the Grade I listed St Mildred’s Church in Tenterden.

This project required a sensitive approach to enhance the church’s architectural features while respecting its rich heritage and historic significance.

A key aspect of the scheme was the development of bespoke pendant luminaires, created through close collaboration between Great British Lighting, CES Lighting & Electrical Specialists, the client team, and the church architect. The result is a carefully considered lighting solution that supports both the character and functionality of this remarkable building.

It has been a privilege to contribute to the ongoing preservation and enhancement of such an important heritage asset.

From gas boilers to heating chandeliers! ✨

A fantastic recently completed project at St Anne’s Church, Hoxton, where we partnered with Roger Mears Architects , Fullers Builders and Heat Outdoors to install Shaddow Heating’s innovative heating chandelier system.

These elegant electric heating chandeliers are becoming an increasingly popular solution for historic buildings looking to phase out traditional gas heating while preserving their architectural beauty.

Watching these impressive fixtures being carefully lifted into position beneath the church’s historic roof was incredible. The finished result delivers comfortable, efficient heating while complementing the character of this remarkable building.

A brilliant example of heritage and innovation working together. 🙌

“CES listened, understood our context and constraints, and adapted throughout the project.”

Feedback like this means everything.

Great client relationships aren’t built on delivering a service alone. They’re built on listening, understanding challenges, and finding solutions that work in the real world.

Every project is different, but our approach stays the same: put the client first, stay responsive, and work together to achieve the best outcome.

When you take the time to understand what matters most to your clients, better results follow.

A new week begins with a moment to reflect on what’s been an exciting period of progress.

Here are a few snapshots from projects we’ve had the privilege of working on over the past month, each one unique, each one pushing us to think carefully about how light, detail, and technical precision come together to shape spaces.

There’s also some genuinely exciting projects coming into delivery soon. More to share in the weeks ahead.

Wishing everyone a productive and positive week as we continue building, refining, and delivering work we’re proud of.

Today we were delighted to begin the lighting design for the magnificent Beverley Minster.

It was a privilege to meet with the Minster team and project architect to explore how light can enhance and reveal the beauty, architecture, and heritage of this extraordinary building.

These images capture just a few of the highlights from the day, from the breathtaking nave and soaring vaults, to the remarkable organ screen designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and carved by Beverley craftsman James Elwell in the late 19th century, and the medieval treadwheel crane high in the tower, once used to lift stone and building materials during the Minster’s construction and maintenance.

We look forward to helping tell the story of this remarkable building through light.

A wonderful heritage project recently completed at St Nicholas Church, Britwell Salome.

Our team at CES Lighting & Electrical Specialists designed and delivered a bespoke electrical, lighting and heating scheme, including decorative heating chandeliers inspired by the geometric patterns within the church’s west stained-glass window.

This video shows the heating chandeliers in operation, demonstrating how modern, energy-efficient heating can be sensitively integrated into a historic church setting without compromising its character.

Discreet LED lighting enhances both the worship space and key architectural features, while intuitive controls allow lighting and heating to be operated at the touch of a button.

A sensitive, practical and cost-effective solution for a beautiful village church.
