Keep an eye out this weekend, as you may well spot one of our latest prototypes.

Fabricated entirely utilising our in-house laser-cutting facilities, this technology has become indispensable for creating highly bespoke elements within our heritage projects.

Our philosophy is simple: when a period-appropriate component cannot be sourced, we go the extra mile to recreate it. By combining advanced laser scanning, 3D prototyping, and precision laser cutting, we can replicate lost historic details with absolute accuracy.

It is this seamless marriage of cutting-edge technology and traditional conservation that allows us to safeguard the past without compromise.

Most of our heritage projects have architecture history hiding in plain sight!

This Georgian corner in South West Sussex beautifully captures how local geology, historic tax laws, and structural engineering shaped traditional English design.
Here are the prominent historic features visible in this façade:

• 🔴🔵 Flemish Bond & "Sussex Blues": The wall alternates long bricks (stretchers) and short bricks (headers) in every row. The silvery-grey bricks are vitrified headers, glazed by intense heat inside traditional wood-fired kilns.
• 📐 Queen Closers: Look right at the corner edge. These very narrow vertical brick strips are queen closers—a standard brick cut in half lengthwise. Masons used them to shift the mortar joints, keeping the wall structurally strong while maintaining the perfect interlocking pattern.
• 🏛️ Axed Georgian Arches: The flat arch over the filled-in window was roughly shaped on-site with a brick axe. Notice how remarkably slim and tapered they are, acting like wedges to distribute the weight of the masonry above.
• 💸 The "Window Tax" Scar: This bricked-up opening is a classic architectural scar from the Window Tax (1696–1851). Homeowners blocked windows to lower tax bills, though some were built as "blind windows" from the start to preserve symmetry.
• 📐 Stepped Header Corbeling: Just below the roofline, standard rectangular bricks project outward as headers row by row. This structural corbel acts as an ornamental cornice to gracefully support the eaves and shed rainwater away from the wall.
• 🔥⛰️ Pots, Flint & Peg Tiles: At the top is a red clay Fareham chimney pot, famous for its durable Hampshire clay. Below, the brick sits on traditional nodular flint harvested from the South Downs chalk geology. The roof features handmade clay peg tiles, distinct for their weathered colour variations.

Lane end - Our proposal for a new contemporary home in Midhurst in the South Downs responds to a brief shaped by constraint, sensitivity and opportunity.

The site sits within a National Park and overlooks a Scheduled Monument, requiring a design that is confident yet carefully composed. The architecture is intentionally modern, but grounded in its setting through considered scale, restrained detailing and a close relationship with the landscape.

Rather than compete with the historic context, the proposal seeks to sit quietly within it — framing views, reducing visual impact and creating a home that feels rooted in place.

Building in the South Downs demands more than a beautiful proposal. It requires a deep understanding of landscape, heritage, planning policy and long-term impact.
For this new modern home, the design balances openness and privacy, contemporary living and historic sensitivity, ambition and restraint. The proposal responds to the complex location through careful orientation, considered material choices and a form that works with the contours and character of the site.
Overlooking a Scheduled Monument, the house has been designed to respect important views while creating generous, light-filled spaces for modern living.

A house in the South Downs, set within one of the most sensitive landscapes in the country.
The brief began with a complex question: how do you replace an existing building with a new modern home while respecting a protected historic setting, a National Park landscape, and views across a Scheduled Monument?
The existing house no longer met the aspirations of the site, but its removal marked the start of a careful process rather than a blank slate. Every decision — from demolition strategy to massing, materials, access and landscape impact — had to respond to the significance of the place.
This was not simply about designing a new house. It was about understanding what the site could responsibly become.
