What a wonderful job ..
Client had Housemartins nesting, until some 'unpleasant' children threw stones and broke the nest.
Customer bought ready built nests, and so after fitting them for him today, it is fingers crossed..
Love being a Handyman on Priors, always busy with great customers and with some of the most unusual requests!
Fitted 4 nests and charged £30... customer was expecting to pay £100... jobs like this are not about the money, I will be so chuffed if the Housemartins return, and know I played a part.

It is so easy to decry the the 'youth of today' as lazy, obsessed by social media and generally I agree ... but today Ryan has gone against the trend.
I put a note out for a bricklayer which explained what was required, and do not message me call me if interested.
As Ryan was at college, his Mum (Shyvonne) was on the phone to me, within minutes of the post, asking if her son would get the chance, as
Ryan is 16 years old, and been on his course since Sept 25.
How can anyone gain experience if they are not given a chance?
Well it took twice as long as expected, but the finished job is a credit to him.
Ryan had a couple of awkward challenges thrown at him, was prepared to ask advice and mist important, listen to it.
When I had to go and get more sand, he ran out of muck, I returned to find he had swept up, tidied up the materials and had the tools lined up and ready.
He never once reached for his phone, only ate half the sandwich I got him, and just cracked on.
So to Ryan.... really well done young man, you have put in a solid days work, showed initiative and christened your tools (which he won BTW in a practical brick laying competition coming in the top 5) ... and finished his first day off on the tools with a beer...
Also congratulations to Mum Shyvonne... what a cracking lad you have raised...
If I could, then I would ... but any company out there looking for an apprentice... Ryan would be a great asset to you..
Cheers
Paul

EVENING TELEGRAPH ARTICLE.

As many have seen, last week I was in court and received an 8 month sentence suspended for 12 months.
With the amount of comments made, from supportive to stupid, here is what actually happened.

It was ny 10 year old sons Birthday Party on the Saturday, and two of his best friends were sleeping over. At approximately 21:15hrz I asked what they would like for breakfast, and they all wanted toast.
With only two slices left, I decide to pop up to the Sainsbury Local in my work van.

I was wearing baggy shorts and a flip flops and just needed a loaf of bread, and that was all that was on my mind.

I parked my van, and as I walked to the door a black car with a trailer holding two battered scooters drove across the pedestrian path and then preceded to park across all three disabled bays.

The vehicle was driven by a young (20ish) Asian lad, and as his window was open, I spoke to him and said, "Come on matey, you're not going to leave it there are you?" He was very polite, and replied saying the car park was empty, to which I replied, "Well that gives you loads of room then, but you have covered all three disabled parking bays. One is bad enough but all three is a bit much."

At this point it was perfectly polite and amicable, but then the passenger joined in. A string of profanities followed, including f f**k, c**t repeatedly.
He then shouted at the driver 'Don't you move this fu***ng car.' which he repeated a second time.

Next the passenger door flew open, and out stormed another young Asian lad, who came around the front of the car, pulling his hoodie over his face and started again with the foul language and threats.

As I looked at him approach in his arrogant swagger, I just thought ' What a jumped up little pr**k', and then something in me just realised, that this obnoxious boy just expected to be able to be able to bully and intimidate a 59 year old short bloke, and no doubt had done it before and would do it again.

The odds were not good, so I turned, waked back to my van, reached in the back for a solid wooden staircase spindle, closed the door and turned to walk back. I will genuinely say that I had no intention of grabbing my log splitter, but by the time I turned and was walking back, it was too late.

I approached the group, and bee-lined for the bully, and angrily said "Do you think you can just bully anyone, threaten me because I am old well you got it wrong with me." I had reversed the log splitter and had the but of the handle low and towards him.
At this point, his mates joined in and I knew that looking at the bully's face, his arrogance and swagger had completely gone. I offered to go into the corner of the car park with him, just the two of us, log splitter back in the van. Now from them being all tough, they were now bleating 'We are calling the Police.'
I put the log splitter back in the van, walked back and thanked the polite young lad in the driver seat as he then did move the vehicle, at which point he stated "Sorry, he has got anger issues".

I smiled, went and brought my loaf of bread, and went home.

So do I regret what I did? Absolutely not, in the fact that an obnoxious bully was made to look entirely the coward bullies usually are, and if it makes him think twice before thinking it is clever to block the entire Disabled Parking Bays at a premise, and then when politely it is pointed out that is a bit much, threaten someone much older and shorter than himself, then I have no regret.
However, to qualify his, I do regret what was in my hands, it was way too much and on that point I was a complete idiot, and would never want to see anyone ever do the same.

I am not looking for anyone's sympathy, or whether you agree with me or not, but unless some people stand up to bullies and thugs, then the more ground you give, the more they take.
